John Tuttle is an all-time legend. Anyone around in the 1980's heard the stories. Graduated from Auburn and moved into a shack or camper and started running 150 mile weeks and made the 1984 Olympic Team in probably still the greatest American only marathon in terms of depth. Tuttle and Pfitzinger the winner were not considered major contenders that day. Especially Tuttle.
I only recall the oft mentioned story of his Auburn days when he liked to bite into beer bottles and eat the glass at parties. Maybe he only did that once but that is enough to leave a life long mark as a wildman. But a wildman who also made an Olympic Team and was still running 14:19 for 5000 and 23:20 for 8k at age 41.
