Arrowhead Ultra in Minnesota in Feb (I think?) gets well above zero, but nighttime temps are often colder than -20F. 135 miles.

Isn't the Antartica marathon one that you run completely straight and end up back where you started?
Also to the OP: I believe Canada is actually the coldest planet on the world.

Or, is there one colder?
I have read all of the responses and can't believe how stupid people are. Everyone must still be in 3rd grade or something.
The answer is YES.
I am rather sure the correct answer is no. I am persuaded that Diet Ginger Ale is not the light beer with the fewest calories, regardless of the number of calories.
Great work, guys!

Well that just goes to prove me right, if it has a marathon, it can't be that cold, can it? There weren't any marathons going on while the German army was freezing to death in Russia. No 1-mile fun runs during Napoleon's long retreat.
If it was really cold in Antarctica, they'd be having hockey games, not marathons.
There's still nothing there but a bunch of damn penguins and ice, and occasionally a few spoiled rich people running marathons
Do you know that North Korea actually IS north of South Korea, and that New Zealand is newer than old Zeeland?
Those are some interesting facts.
No German or French armies ever froze to death in New Zealand or North Korea, either, though the UN army did get pretty cold in Korea. But not cold enough that anyone resorted to playing hockey.
No German army froze to death in Russia either.
They did overextend themselves in the winter of 41 in a last ditch attempt to seize Moscow, not possessing winter clothing or means to unfreeze their vehicles and armament.
So when they were attacked by Stalin’s winter equipped Siberian divisions rushed across from the Japanese front, when Stalin found out that the Japanese were going to attack west, not east - there was a certain amount of panic and disorderly retreat compounded by also, a huge loss due to those suffering from frostbite.
However, with the arrival of General Model in charge, the discipline of the greatest warriors of the modern era reasserted themselves and they turned the tide, crushing Stalin’s now over extended troops and stabilising the front.
There was no retreat similar to Napoleons in 1812.

How cold was it when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

What is this nonsense?
and also:

I didn't say they retreated, I said they DIED.
The 6th Army was a German army, and it died in Stalingrad. The Russian winter destroyed a German army. That other German armies survived is irrelevant.
No winter in any other place has destroyed a German army. The Russian winter is superior to all other winters.
Antarctica can't really be called a continent because they have no hockey team. no ice capades, no skying.
the sun being cold? that is nonsense. it is not even a planet. during the day, we all know the sun is very hot, at night? well what ever temperature it is you know half the time hot plus whatever it is at night, is not coldest.
greenland is out because like Antarctica it is not a continent, i.e. no hockey team, etc.
iceland? what a joke, it is all volcanoes which ain't cold.
looks like siberia and canada are tied then. i think canada won the last cup, so probably canada wins.
The science in this thread is way off. We should be going by amount of snowfall, not hockey to determine the severest winters. To do this, I can think of no better way than calculating which continent has the largest (b)lizards. Some of the largest lizards, the komodo dragons, are found in Indonesia. Therefore Indonesia has the worst winters. The Indonesian winter is superior to all other winters.

here is your ice age Indonesia for you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvd9q3NGXPoOk, smart guy, how many German armies have been destroyed by Komodo dragons?
Canada is north of the unwiped ass hole

Yes it is. Although I think it is de facto owned by the US military
The Antarctic ultra calls itself the coldest in the world but in reality the White Mountains 100 in Alaska is colder. They do the Antarctic ultra in November under 24 hours of daylight and temperatures around 0F.
White Mountains is warmer than Sutina 100 or Arrowhead 135. Dumb dumb

Yes it's been a fully autonomous country since 2009 though it's still within the Kingdom of Denmark.
