The zoom elites are actually a really sweet shoe for sub-elite competitive types. They are really cushy when you're tired, have a lower offset than what you would might based on a visual analysis, and can actually go really fast despite not being light. Having zoom air in the forefoot, but not in the heel makes a lot of sense for a mid or forefoot strike type of runner. I've done a significant amount of running in the 5:30 - 6 minute pace range in that shoe and it never feels like it is in the way.
The top 3 hobby jogger shoes (as i see it) however:
1) nothing mizuno...their shoes are really only appreciated by those that actually run...and in this case, "run," is defined by more of a state of mind than by an arbitrary pace or speed.
2) anything Brooks...they have cornered the adult, participatory market...unfortunately for the competitive types, their two best shoes (the launch and green silence) are being discontinued.
3) anything "cute," which typically means colorful... Gotta look good at the gym! ;) (this currently means the saucony ride, asics landreth, or NB 870...all of which are actually good shoes in their own right).
PS - I own a running store, and see this in action every single day.
Asics Kayano. It's their most expensive cushion shoe, so it has to be their best, right?
Andrew Wheating I know for a fact does his training runs in Pegasus. I guess he is being reduced to hobby jogger status now.

Actually I don't know if he does all of them in Pegasus, but he tweeted a picture with a pair of Pegasus tied to his back pack one time.
Well, the Inspire and Rider and in our top five shoes on the women's side. I was never a really big fan of the Launch or Green Silence.
It is possible that your customer base is more "runner" than ours which has a significant amount of what I would call "fitness enthusiasts."
Pretty sure the Asics Kinsei Retails for like $195
What's wrong with the Brooks Adrenaline?

Yes, this explains why only the runners who are sponsored where shoes, and the subelites who are without a sponsor go barefoot!
"barefoot sub-elite", an oxymoron if I've ever seen one!
I've seen my share of barefooters in my area, but no one doing anything sub-7 pace, even in a 5K. Bzzzt, try again barefoot nutter.
Anything from payless or walmart
yes, and your hand was meant to drive nails and screws.
people who say this are hobby joggers that don't realize it. Lunar's and frees are good. The spikes are incredible.

Beginners and fun-runners have no clue that Nike products are more about fashion than function. I won't speak to their apparrel or other shoe lines, but Nike makes absolutely the worst running shoes on the market today. (Which is too bad, really, because back in the late 70s and early 80s Nike had a few quality products available for distance runners.)
Nearly all the spikes i saw on the olympic track, and racing flats on the feet of those running the olympic marathon were either adidas or nike. Same goes for the apparel, with the odd puma vest. Even if they are the ponsors surely if these shoes were such poor quality the athletes wouldn't be knocking out olympic standard performances in them? just sayin'.
What's wrong with the Brooks adrenaline? And I see a ton of nike frees down at the track when going to train.

Lagat also does his training in the Pegasus, or at least used to.
Anyway, the point is that Nike makes plenty of fashion or "training" shoes, but it also makes shoes that are good for serious runners, and if you are a serious runner you ought to be able to figure out the difference.

I was being sarcastic.
NEWTON Running shoes = pure hobby jogger
I don't know where you get that Adrenalins and Nikes are for hobby joggers. Wear what fits your form and foot best. I have been through asics, saucony, brooks, and found that nikes are the most comfortable and fit best. It is just a plus that they come in bright colors.
ahh, another fetish faddish minimalist runner brainwashed by a hobby-jogger book!
Good for you, tiger.
