Kenya better stop showing up at Championships so it doesn't have to deal with such disaster.

US men finished tied for 2nd in medals. I'd have to call that a rousing success.

^^^ This, exactly. ^^^
I was just going to suggest someone score it like a track meet for a better measure of how deep the quality is, so thanks and thanks for the comparison to 2008.

IN 2008 The USA Men 800-Marathon would have scored ZERO points
going from zero points to 46 in 4 yrs is VERYYY GOOD!
shut up naysayersss
what a flaming disaster for team usa distance edition. ZERO gold medals, only 2 silvers, no bronzes. after 2011 daegu world champion junney barringer won the W1500M i thought the usa was back. but now in aug 2012 usa distances is in a double dip depression.

A good point. Very good point.
As a result, I re-scored it giving 3 points for gold , 2 for silver and 1 for bronze. I also did it 5 for gold 3 for silver and 1 for bronze.
The order doesn't change at all - just the margin of victory.
Kenya still wins
3-2-1 5-3-1
Ken 19 27
ETH 14 21
RUS 8 12
GBR 6 10
TUR 5 8
US 4 6
UGA 3 5
Alg 3 5
BOT 2 3
Fra 2 3
RSA 2 3
TUN 2 3
MAR 1 1
BRN 1 1
Actually, I'll go a step further as a gold is very, very important. Let's say a gold is worth 5. And a silver only 2 and bronze 1. That seems about right - a gold is worth five times as much as bronze and 2.5 times as much as silver.
Guess what? Kenyan still wins
Ken 23
ETH 20
RUS 12
GBR 10
TUR 7
US 4
UGA 5
Alg 5
BOT 2
Fra 2
RSA 2
TUN 2
MAR 1
BRN 1

Get a F'ing clue, man.
Your welcome.
Kenya's coach had forecast 12 golds. They won 2, compared to 6 in 2008.

12 golds in 12 events is not a forecast. It is a silly joke.
If the don't count the women (I don't even watch those events anyway), the USA had the third best showing behind Kenya and Mo Farah. Sure, Kenya still dominated, but Ethiopia sucked and GBR sucks without Mo. I don't know how anyone could have expected a better performance out of anyone. Maybe the marathoners, but even if Hall raced well no one expected a medal from him. Duane and Symmonds both ran well, Centro ran pretty well, and Bernard is old and Rupp had tired legs from his silver. I don't know how anyone could have expected a better performance given the outcome of the events.

This ^ is true.
The team performed as good or better than any reasonable expectations anyone could have had for the team as a whole. And the team was dramatically stronger than US teams of the recent past.
Good job USA.
Zero golds for US 2+ laps indicates what a complete joke we have now. A disappointing and unexpected shock after Jenny's 2011 Deagu Gold medal.

The US distance program is irrational and ineffective, because its founders have no idea about racial differences in physique. Any investment into long distance running in USA is basically a waste of resources. To be maximally effective, the program must concentrate on the 800-3000 m running range. (Letting aside the fact that US whites should have better or at least equal predispositions for the 400 m like US blacks, and the potential of the 200 million white population is wasted here as well.)
But the fact that the best US 1500 m runner is a Hispanic indicates that despite all the effort, the participation rate in the sport is ridiculously low.

Can you folks please try harder? Your efforts are just lame.
I know, what I'am saying. I have studied the topic very intensely since 2001. I won't brag, when I say that probably nobody in the world knows more about it than me. I can explain it to you in detail. No problem.
