The poster was implying the facts for middle distance and distance runners. The majority of USA positives are for sprints and field events and are for stimulants, diuretics and anabolic steroids.

India, Russia and the U.S.A. have the largest numbers of T&F athletes serving doping suspensions.
India has a billion people in it. Of course they will have a higher number serving suspensions. Same thing with the USA. we have 5-6 times the number of people as france/spain.

Yes but in India not many people do athletics...
Oh yeah I forgot India was a T&F powerhouse.
There was another thread on this topic and we are trying to consolidate them into one. Here are some posts from that thread:

She'll probably appeal. But if she loses, then a lifetime ban sends a message. I restate my recommendation on the one strike rule. First time you are caught, you are ou for good. That way it sends a stronger message.
If they can go to one false start and you are out (one and done) then why not on something far more egregious.

I'd like to know more about her doping. I asked a medical professional (but not a pharmacist) how furosemide could enhance performance, and they were stumped. Apparently it just makes you piss like a racehorse. Do any of you know more about this? Here are some theories for feedback:
1) used right before a race, 2-3 lbs of water weight lost = faster performance. 1500m short enough that the benefits outweigh the downsides of dehydration (I admit this seems really far-fetched, I'm just brainstorming)
2) masking agent? This seems most likely, but I don't know how it would work. Do any of you know more about how furosemide might mess with your urine sample to mess up a test for EPO or something?
3) boosts the effect of another drug, like EPO or a steroid, by some change in blood due to dehydration. Then the athlete could microdose enough to not get caught, but still reap the benefits of the drug.
Thanks. Good riddance to this thief and coward. Here's to hope for a lifetime ban.

It works at the distal convoluted tubule with a sodium/potassium exchange system. This is why in the "old days" many elites were taking potassium pills...it causes you to lose loads of potassium. Not only does it cause the athlete to excrete metabolites faster, but it also acidifies the urine, theoretically helping to denature any proteins of exogenous means. Effective and subversive doping is a very scientific business, to be sure.
Oh yeah. Our article on this is up here as well:

3 of 3 positive tests in the last week belong to Nike athletes. What is the official response from the sponsor? Lack of due diligence, coincidence or something else?
What agents and coaches work with these runners?
And Mark Block in the Nike VIP area at the Trials - it is all starting to fall into place now
It actually is a surprise to me when one of these top athletes fails a drug test.
They are usually prepared for testing and know how to beat the tests.
Per capita, the U.S. has the cleanest track & field team in the world. (That is a fact!)

What a crock.
Among the leading track nations, USA is the one whose highest profile athletes are always busted.
Its true that some Jamaicans , Ethiopians, Kenyans, germans, French etc have been busted. But its usually peripheral ones.
IN the USA, the highest profile athletes are all suspect or have been busted.
True, but it is a lot easier to get the PEDs out of your system than the diuretic, which is usually taken every day leading up to competition. Very few athletes will get caught during competition with PEDs in their system, biological passport, masking agents and investigative work (emails, phone calls, checks) is how most of them will be caught. Most of the dopers took their highest doses of PEDs about 4 weeks ago, micros dosed for the next 2 weeks, the won’t take anything for the next 2 weeks and go into the games clean in terms of detection. Take Shelly Ann Fraser for example who’s best time in the 100m was 11.31 in 2007, the next year, she runs 10.78 and wins the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Last year Shelly Ann Fraser’s best time was 10.95, she just ran 10.70 about 3 weeks ago when she would have been at her highest dosage. Right now she is completely off the PEDs and is probably even off of the diuretic by now, but there will still be enough benefit from the PEDS in her system to run 10.7-mid in the Olympics and she won’t get caught.
Selsouli's problem was that she was stupid, she ran too fast, which caused too much attention while she still had junk in her syetem. I am sure her handlers did not want her too run that fast. You have to save your best race for the Olympics and when your system is clean.

Not an accurate generalization. All are "suspect" according to at least one anonymous poster on LRC but that's not the same as having serious suspicions.
Not minimizing the big names who have be caught, but it's not fair to overgeneralize.

She ran this at the Jamaican trials. If it was the US trials she would certainly have been tested as the winner at the trials. Wouldn't Jamaica do the same thing? Wouldn't this be the riskiest time to have the highest dosage in your system - when you are winning your national trials?

She was nabbed from the test at that event and they protocol would have selected her, not the performance, per se.
Thank God she got caught!
In the Pre 3000, she totally pulled a Rashid Ramzi. She just absolutely lit up Sally Kipyego, effortlessly opening up a massive lead in the second half of the race. She then purposely slowed down to make her win look more reasonable. She looked like she had just finished a warmup as she jogged around with lots of spring left in her step blowing kisses to the crowd. Like Ramzi, she was terrible at hiding that she was in superhuman world record shape and doped to the gills.
It makes me sick that she took a win + lots of money away from Kipyego and so many others, but glad she has been stopped. She was such an embarrassment to the sport.

Nothing in your post disproves the fact that, per capita, US has the cleanest program. I would rather see 1 or 2 high profile guys get busted than 10 runners that don't get a lot of exposure.

For a couple of years Camden NJ was labled the murder capital of the U.S.; perhaps NY should have been labled the murder capital since in each of those years NY had over 4 times as many murders as Camden. -Or perhaps, we should have re calculated the numbers based how many high profile people were murdered.
There are about 600 professional t&f athletes in the U.S.; if we have 5 athletes busted, how does that compare to a country with 10 pro athletes and 5 test positive (basically half of their athlete test positive.)
