Whatever Rupp did the same thing in 08 and acted like he won something.
Andrew Bumbalough KING OF THE PRELIMS!
All HAIL.
I'm no expert, but I think he was trying to win the race and that is why he leaned. A question for you..
If the winning the racewas so unimportant, why did Rupp blow everyone out of the water from so far out? Shouldn't he have saved energy for the all-important final by not running his final 800 in 1:53.
Also, why did he respond to Bumbi's move if he didn't think it was important to win the race?
Wow the anti-rupp posts literally are being deleted.
People that say it was classless of Bumbi are ignoring the fact that Rupp ALSO tried to win the heat. But he didn't.
Need any justification for what Bumbi did? How about watching Rupp storm off the track like a petulant child; mental games are part of sports. Rupp is the best American distance runner in 20 years. Or...best American runner for time in 20 years.
Why would bumby show his cards now? He could have surprised people In a slow final Now Rupp and Lomong are more likely to take it out hard to lose Bumby?
This site cares way too much about handshakes. Remember how pissed people got when a rupp shook Solinsky's hand too briefly after the AR?
Why no Rupp post race interviews? Buba's post race interview was honest and made since. It was a race and the crowd was cheering like crazy.
Ok, pay attention folks. Rupp is practicing for the games. Do you not think it will take a 1:53 final 800 in the 5000 heat to make the final? of course it will! Salazar told him to race this way tonight to get used to it and see how his body responds for the final. Once again, brilliant coaching. It will be automatic in the final and his last 2-3 laps are going to punish everyone but Lomong and Lagat and it will be a dog fight for the victory. And Bumbi, he won't be anywhere in sight of 3rd place...book it!
Rupp and Bumbi have nothing on Rashid "Too Juiced To Lose" Ramzi. I present the most obnoxious finish in a heat ever:
what is that last mile going to be in!?!?

Oh man... this is so great, he is the GOAT.

What was the point?
He knows he won't be a factor in the final, so he had to capture any glory that he could while the opportunity was there. In a year, everyone will forget the lean and he can tell everyone he beat Galen Rupp at the 2012 Olympic Trials.
Lagat is possibly (most likely) in his final year of his career. Seriously doubt he's going to let Rupp beat him for possibly his last national title.
I didn't notice the lean, but I thought he looked great. If Rupp was annoyed, good for him. Guys are going to be doing plenty of annoying things in his Olympic races, so he better get used to it.

Great attempt at trying to be rational and praise Salazar, but if he was really practicing for the games, he'd be kicking all-out the last 100m+. The Olympic prelims will close much faster over the last 150 what we saw tonight.
He's a child of entitlement, so he's pissy about not having the race given to him. Bumbalough's lean was to mess with him a bit. If you hate one's actions, hate them both. Rupp is clearly the superior athlete, so it shouldn't have bothered him at all that it happened, except for the fact he's still very immature.
Wow. So many Rupp fans being hypocritical to bash Bumbi for doing EXACTLY WHAT RUPP HAS DONE BEFORE. Frankly I don't think much of it. If someone wants to loosen up the legs a but by kicking it home - more power to them. It doesn't matter for anything but I won't lay into the guy for it. Sorry that he didn't bow to Rupp's feet. Nice temper tantrum afterward.

Rupp doesn't win his heat and storms off ignoring his fellow athletes' high fives as well as those of the workers. And the guy that beat him is the classless one?
Andy was a bad boy, a very bad boy. Nobody does that to God in Eugene, nobody.
I'd pay large money to see an Outsiders style rumble between Alberto's crew (Socs) and Jerry's crew (Greasers). No question about the result, just the extent of the damage inflicted. Jager would be Ali circa 1966.
Large money. Large.
None of it will matter after Rupp destroys everyone in the final save maybe Lagat.
