I'll respect golfers when they start allowing crowd noise just like any other sport. Why does a golfer get complete silence when hitting a stationary ball but a MLB player has 20,000+ fans screaming when trying to hit a ball coming at him at 90+mph. Or a NFL field goal kicker or NBA player shooting free throws?
I'm going to guess you have never been present at the start of a race.
I would have to say a NASCAR driver would be at the top. Those guys are driving at 100+ MPH for hours in a car that heats up to over 110 degrees, bumper to bumper with the threat of death. When I drive on the interstate I get stressed as fu*k when someone tailgates me. Plus they're in a million dollar car.
Motorcycle racing - the slightest mistake and you're dead or paralyzed. Check out some of the Isle of Man highlight videos.
Ya, I was going to throw in motogp with that. Those guys have wicked big balls. NASCAR you often times just spin out if you touch a wheel... motogp you screw up and you have a halo with 10 pins in your femur. In golf you screw up and and you have a guy that is carrying your clubs pencil in a higher number.

Obviously because hitting a golf ball well is by far the most difficult of those activities.
Golf requires more pain tolerance. Running requires more focus.
