Gibby's coaching strategy is straight forward.
Get 10 or 12 9:10 to 9:20 HS 2 milers and have them run 130 miles a week at 5:50 pace. Those that survive will run good 10k/XC times and you'll have a really solid XC team every year.
This will not work at the middle distance or 5k level in the Big10. You will see as the years progress, you'll have a couple sub 30 10k guys and no one else at Michigan. A couple 3:50 type 1500 guys and 1:53 ish 800 guys but the program will be nothing like it was in the past.
Gibby is not and was never a good fit for Michigan.
