Nike low balls for the cheapest slave and child labor plants outside of international law, so NYRR should do the same and take the lowest bid.

Experienced sanitation workers make over $100k a year and retire with huge benfits after 20 years.
They are the 1%!!!
Fight the power, don't run NYRR races!
It's time for Mary Wittenberg to go she has done a horrible job.

Another bad analogy. Nike can sell more shoes if they are able to lower the cost of their product. NYRR won't sell any more entries by lowering the cost of the NYCM entry.

Any person can stop traffic. Funeral Cops on motorcycles regularly stop traffic and those fat chubbies are not sworn officers of the law.
Actually Funeral Cops are often sworn law officers working overtime. In any case, they are putting up barricades or closing off intersections for hours at a time.
Any while any person can try to stop traffic, most will get arrested at worst or ignored at best.
Funeral Cops are undertakers with Ponch & John outfits and local motocross racers.
why do cops, who normally work on sundays, get paid overtime for working the marathon when it's just another day at the office for them? the idea that they get a windfall for just showing up to work during regular working hours never has made any sense to me. perhaps nyrr and bloomberg should question this a little more vocally.
public salaries over $30K/year need to be exempt, i.e. no overtime pay. taxpayers can't afford paying ridiculous amounts any more. taxpayer funded retirement plans and medical insurance for military, teachers, safety workers, judges, politicians, etc. should be made illegal. also outlaw double dipping of public retirement plans, double dipping, and mandate no payouts until at least 70 years of age.

Because they aren't just "showing up for another workday."
In case you didn't realize, the rest of the 8.5 million residents of NYC are going about their day, still needing the regular police staffing.
The fees are for the EXTRA cops needed - those called in from their off days - to provide security for the marathon. That's the overtime.
(On a side note, I am constantly amazed at the stupidity of the LetsRunners.)
Not every cop is working Sunday morning. Say your town has 100 cops and you usually need 50 to perform everyday police tasks Sunday morning. On marathon Sunday you may 60 cops working, 50 performing everyday tasks and 10 closing roads and providing race support. It's much cheaper to pay overtime for the 10 cops coming in on their morning off than to pay to overstaff the police force the other 364 days of the year.

nice - attempting to troll further, within your own troll thread. I'll give you 3 points for diligence.

Depending on the shift they normally work they may not get overtime pay. The basic fact of the matter is the cops doing normal work are still doing it, so cops from other shifts are brought in. That's overtime, plain and simple.
If they used cops on their regular shifts then those cops would have to leave their post if something happened that required the normal on-duty shift police to respond to.
pot meet kettle.
many (most) of the cops actually are showing up to just another day at the office. ALL of the cops are getting overtime -- not just the extra ones who are brought in the day of the race. the fact that the normal sunday working cops get paid overtime is a travesty. do you normally chime in on subjects that you know nothing about?
on a side not, i constantly am amazed at the arrogance of stupid posters on here.
New York has the same problem as the U.S. in general has where public employee unions have created a separate class of citizens who think they are entitled to free perks and free benefits at the expense of taxpayers.
Taxpayers are demanding that for teachers, fire, cops, politicians, etc. that they get rid of 4 day/10 hour shifts, overtime pay, taxpayer paid retirement payouts before 65 years of age, taxpayer paid medical and dental benefits, hire only community stakeholders that live one mile from the school or station house they are assigned to.
Hell yeah! And the result is that hardworking runners are priced out of a major marathon because there are enough stupid foreigners and upper east side yuppies willing to pay $255 for a race.

and the result is the people running the country will be imbeciles and illegal aliens, but it would mean 100% employment for conservatives, so you've have that going for you.
i'd much rather have illegal aliens working for $10/hour than most overpaid union workers who demand overtime, fat pensons and guaranteed vacation days. however, without all of this fat and largesse, who would vote for politicians like obama?
I'm amazed at the number of threads complaining about the increase in the race fee for NYCM. It's not your god given right to run this race for $60.
The market will take care of this. You dont want to pay that, don't run it.
Again it's not a free market. Only the NYRR can get the permit from the city to put on an event like this. Only the NYPD can police it.
I'd love to see what the NYRR does with all the money the rake in from the NYCM and all the cookie cutter 4 milers in Central Park that they get 9K people to do for $25.
They are certainly not paying taxes like free market business would.
So lets review, NYRR has this exclusive right that they never paid any money for. They are not regulated and they don't pay taxes. In the NY area there is no credible competitor to the NYRR or NYCM.
The city of NY is cool with it because the NYPD and sanitation worker can charge big bucks that help cover thier budget shortfalls.
I haven't been running this event in the last 8 years and the price keeps going up so I don't think my not running is care of it.
NYRR should fire the current corrupt management, have internet elections, and 6 year term limits for executives, consultants, and volunteer managers. After 6 years, you are banned from NYRR management, no more gravy train on our entry fees. Course management should be performed by volunteer managers with paid low cost security guards and off-duty soldiers and police.
