Who is Tim Tebow? Who cares?
Who is Tim Tebow? Who cares?
Kiprop had the fastest 1500m time in the world in 2011.
And the third fastest 800m time in the world.
Kiprop SHOULD have won WC's.
Centro had the #36 time in the world and got Bronze.
Definitely Centro. They both come up big when it matters most. CLUTCH!
Drew Shields. Great team, he just stays out of the way and doesn’t screw it up for them.
The faith similarity works for Jenny Simpson as well:
All the criticism of Tebow reminds of the abuse Josh Cox took during the Bachelor era.

Pod - Except i'm not sure how clean of a life he's living. Remember when he got booted from Keino's camp for relations with ladies of the opposite sex?
With which other type of lady is he supposed to have these relations?

Ladyboys, maybe?
Rojo, confirmation?

Drew Shields could have finished 1st or 221st.. they would have won either way. So no
Johnathan Stublaski (ok. state) from 2010 xc nationals. Stepped up big time when it counted the most. Without him, Ok State may not have been back-to-back champs.
Cameron Levins of course
What about Meb?
Based on his PRs he really isn't in the same league as the top marathoners in the world. Yet somehow he has found away to win an Olympic Silver, and NYC title, and repeatedly compete with and finish well against a dozen guys who have run 3-5 minutes faster than him.
He also has a strong faith and is pretty enthusiastic about the sport and genuinely joyful.
It's not a perfect fit, but it's the first guy that popped into my head.

Both have had articles about them in the Wall Street Journal weekend section recently. There's another point of similarity.
I guess it depends on how you view Tebow. To me there are two things to base this comparison off of:
- being super vocal about his faith
- having horrible mechanics / maybe not being the best player out there but still getting the job done and being someone to believe in
Based upon talking about his faith (and people commenting on how excessive it is), Ryan Hall is the obvious parallel for this one.
For the other aspect, I don't necessarily have a specific person to suggest however I don't think it would be any guy who is a 5th-7th runner on a team. In my opinion Tebow still has the ability to spur his teammates on to greatness, he is a guy that his teammates believe in to lead them on the field to victory.
I wouldn't go with Jenny B either since she had a huge mental collapse when she was the favorite at NCAA XC. We'll see how she does at the Olympics going in as one of the favorites.
I'll vote for Centro.
After him, Galen for all the haters he has and he keeps improving and getting American records.
sorry coach fox should get way more credit for having the guts to change the entire offense mid-season for a guy with marginal passing skills while everybody else throws for 300 yds/game
Brent Vaughn...he's a Christian and a HUGE Tebow/Broncos fan.

Next.
I dont think Jenny B is appropriate as she was a sub-4 runner in college, meaning she was the #1 overall draft pick.
Jenny B being a sub 4 runner is just like Tebow, who won the heisman in college.
Mostly because I think Tebow is significant for being someone supposedly not good enough to start in the NFL, but he gets results.
Now, I'm not at all a Tebow fan, but I am a Meb fan, so I don't mean to slander Mr. Keflezighi. However, if you are looking for someone who gets better results than he is supposed to or someone who consistently shows up the "experts" or Monday morning quarterbacks, it is probably Meb. Every few years a hot new runner comes along in the US, usually someone paler and with a more familiar last name, and this new runner is anointed the savior of US marathoning. Then, at the big races, Meb comes through and puts mud on the experts faces.
I think the whole g*d thing is a red herring. We see a lot of athletes thanking g*d for stuff all the time. Tebow's act just rings familiar to the evangelical mega church crowd. He's just got the right look to market a certain product. Like Andre Aggasi and Ashton Kutcher have the right look to sell cameras, Tebow has the right look to market white conservative evangelical religion.
