He got sick for a couple of days. Big deal!
He'll bounce back, no big deal.
I can think of at least one guy who won the National Championship XC with far worse luck than Ritz.
duuuuude. he's got 2 young children. of COURSE he'll be sick from time to time.
who ARE you people???
Classic geek runner pics. Shaved legs and the fuzzy upper body of an anorexic girl.
Ritz looks a bit like dandelion.

I seem to remember that his high school coach made him take massive vitamins every workout. Maybe the guy was on to something.
so you read all the bull that the GR press and the Harmsen's stirred up?
Pre is worse that Ritz with regard to injuries. After his injury at the age of 24, he never even raced again.
Wrong^ I saw his name show up on a local 5k road race
its Official, Dathan Ritzenhein is the most sick/injured runner ever...
WRONG,
its some guy we have never heard of...becuase he can never train long enough or improve because he is always getting injured or sick

I have a one year old daughter, and I've been sick 5 times in the last 2.5 months. Before having a kid I went about 6 years without getting so much as a cold.

Does he have "Run" tattooed on his chest?
Every great elite I have heard of with the exception of the great East African runners have had lost years due to injury and illness. John Walker lost the prime of his career, Liquori never made it to an Olympics after his freshman year in college. Steve Cram, Aouita, Mary Decker is a legendary case. She had about every injury or and corrective surgery possible for a runner.
Ritz though takes the cake. Has he ever had two full years of uninterrupted training since he was a high schooler?
Its a fine line riding that edge.

Really? Then how did he manage to run 135 sub 4 minute miles?

Breaking sub 4 was no big deal to Walker. In 1977-1980 he should have been able to improve his mile pr from 1975 but he was severely limited in his training volume. He did go on to run under 4:00 all the way until the late 1980's due to being in every race on the circuit indoors and out. Never won a big race after 1976. But he never really was any better than he was at age 25. Not even really that close.
Walker did NOT lose "the prime of his career" to injury, and in fact he ran sub 3:50 in 1984. It is true that he had to limit his volume some, running twice a day for 30 minutes, due to injury, but he did not lose the "prime" of his career to injury. Many milers peak by the age of 25.
Pun Intended?
Bekekle lost a year and Martin Lel seems to have been hurt and sick for more than a year.
