the guys on the London video feed must of stated NY is the greatest marathon 10 ten times or more...even stating who ever wins NY is basically the king!...they must be on the advertising pay roll to!
For dramatic viewing, which is rare in a marathon (though watching Wanjiru hammer it out alone was breathtaking), this is still the best race.

Unbelievable. Never thought I'd see this day.
I called the men's race in 2:05. I am still celebrating as well as reeling from my remarkable performance. Lol.
I think every race WAnjiru has entered was great in its own way. I'll always miss the dude.
Mutai is with it.
IF Ak doesn't pick him, I'll throw a tantrum. I know where Isaiah Kiplagat hangs out-Nairobi club. I'll give him an earful.
Try giving him a wallet-full instead. That is the only language that AK speaks.
Tergat--Ramaala--NYC
I guess that's true, though I didn't notice. I am flashing back in my mind of what I was seeing. I looked for the usual fatigue signs, but didn't see them. Watched on Universal.
Whether this is the greatest ever and all that is irrelevant. What we are witnessing is the march towards sub-2:00 at some point. Amazing to watch.
Why do you think men's marathoning is getting exponentially better every year, while women don't seem to be improving? Meb runs faster than he did a few years ago and is ninth, but none of the women even break 2:22? What gives?
The women's field was weaker, except for Keitany who made a serious blunder.
Wheres the Women? wrote:

Paula is off the drugs.
Wanjiru's races are epic, but Boston came down to a ripping performance with Mosop shadowing Mutai, and one of the most dramatic women's finishes in history.
For combined drama/impact, Boston 2011 tops them all.
MEB placed sixth.... Amazing times
I can't wait to see the recap later...very exciting to read the update thread earlier.

Ha ha!
Kadogo,
I don't have hte kind of money Kiplagat has.The man is wealthy by any standards. If I had just half his money, I'd burn mine. Lol!
This is the most correct and relevant post on here so far. (Other than the references to Sammy's 2008 Olympic race, which was the stuff of legend.)
It doesn't really matter which is or was the greatest. Savor the moment and realize we are all witnesses to distance running history. Honor and respect the incredible past of our sport, but at the same time, look ahead with unbridled anticipation. Collectively, we will get to two hours. Don't let it happen without paying close attention. Don't look back and wish that, as a fan, you had been more involved or followed more closely. This is history in the making. Enjoy it and be part of it.
Did anyone stop to think that in part wejo was trying to spark some conversation about the race?
For me, The first time Geb dipped under 2:04 and Wanjiru's Olympic run were game changers as far as the marathon is concerned so they might be "greater" marathons in my eyes. Today's race is definitely near the top of the list though, certainly ahead of anything from Chicago (given the course differences) and this year's Boston (given the massive tailwind).
The greatest marathon ever run? That's easy. It was by Pheidippides.

Hell, that wasn't even his best marathon ever. Try to keep up.
This is the greatest marathon ever run since the last time you said that and until the next time you say it, which won't be very long.
I wouldn't call it the greatest marathon ever run, but I will say that it was one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen.
G. Mutai looked almost smooth and relaxed in the last 5k after blowing away a super-talented field.
Put it this way: I think Mutai *could* have run the greatest marathon ever today if he had to.
