i don't think the kenyans would do poorly. rono was an alcoholic for a long period of time and didn't he get drunk the night before running a low 27 10k against salazar? (myth?)

Africans drink much harder stuff than Americans. The alcohol would not be a problem. The potential problem for them would be that the carbonation/volume of the beer objectively is greater relative to their body size. But if they trained for the carbonation, at altitude, they'd be fine. And they could have their 5-7 best milers train for it and still be as fast pr-wise as the American top 3.

beer mile world record holder AJ Acosta would definitely make the team
Chunder mile world record holder Chris Parr might be a good challenger. 3:42 1500 and probably a better drinker than O'Lioniard, Acosta et al.
im gonna vote ben bruce as well. however he'll need phil reid as a training partner
Lindsay Lohan for the GOLD!

Finally someone mentions him haha he was the first person I thought of.
to that dude before. aj acosta is deff takin it down. my boy deff hits the booze hard like a bruh! and is a sick miler. just showin you can hit it and run fast. easily got that record
Ha saw this thread and wondered if my name would come up..... I actually had a good chat with AJ about this after the Great North Run mile races.....
Without bigging myself up too much I genuinely don't think I can be beaten at the event.
In the UK the volume is 18oz so the 4-pints I nailed was a total of 72oz.... whereas in the US edition it is 48oz.... and I ran 5min08.7secs then backed it up with a 3.42 1500m 3 days later(and failed an exam the next morning).
In the UK edition it's the Chunder Mile, that seems to cause a big of controversy stateside with chundering allowed..... but that's the hardest factor, actually throwing it, whilst running, and downing pints! Literally feels like your drowning I though I might choke and die. That's what will stop most people from running fast on it.
All of my throwing up was on the final lap after smashing in the equivalent of 6 US pints rather than the 4.
If you want training tips then come over to Newcastle and get on a session of 20pints, mainly downed under peer pressure then get up the next day and smash in a run off a few hours sleep. That's the Saturday 'standard' work-out with a few mid-week's thrown in and often a Friday night.

Evan Jager has got to be able to drink like a boss.
You guys saying Solinsky would win haven't done your research. He DNF'd one a few years ago, he can't chug.

Matt Downin won, with Henry Dennis (RIP) 2nd. Both of them clocking 5:36.
Someone mentioned Warriner up there and I think it's an interesting idea. We're talking about a 4x400 interval workout. Is it going to be a miler who wins this? Maybe we should be strongly considering a long sprinter. And what about Oscar Pistorius? Angelo Taylor is a giant. Ashton Eaton?

this
yea defo a MD runner, its effectively 4x400 with 10secs of not breathing to de-recover!!!!
lap times were (5s) 65 - 409m, (13s) 68, (17s), 71, (11s) 58 for 5m08.7secs.
I think around 4m50 would be around the actual human limit for the event.... you have to take into consideration that those lap times include slowing down at the end to find and grab your drink, taking care to not spillage, avoiding lapped runners / general mayhem of change over area etc....
if anything it would need a slower start,... my 3rd pint of 17secs was due to breathlessness so slowing purposely on lap 3 on the home straight meant an 11sec final pint.
The WildBoar James Hogg also ran 5m11 the previous year and he was a 1m53 800m man, probably in 4m00 1500 shape. He was a gullet opener rather than a chugger, I have never seen him beaten over a 1pint race with a 2sec pint to his name (18oz).
Also we did a 4-pint race (180z) with water where he did 26secs and my best is 40secs. No sickness so just taking the volume like a man.
So I was probably in 18secs better 1500m shape and he was 15secs better over 4-pints.... and the performance difference was 3secs!!!!
the actual aerobic fitness element meaning I wasn't as out of breath will have countered that difference.
So if someone could train them selves to be in 3m30 shape and 20secs for 4 pints then 4m40 would be possible BUT minus the change over factors, not spilling, having an absoult HERO who can get in that shape for both..... NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!
The Canadian team would beast. And nick symmonds has the #3 all time fastest time.
I agree with the slower start. I made the mistake of thinking the best tactic was to get a big lead. But when you are out of breath and chugging a beer it will catch you in the last lap. You can't run very fast when you are puking. It must be all about pacing the first 3 laps.
I went out in 62 and ended up running 7:04. Should have went out in 85.

2 things
First, this is one event the east Africans would suck at. When you weight 100 pds you are gonna get trashed.
Secondly, can't believe it took so long for someone to say Solinsky. That guy would finish and would even be buzzed.
Henry Rono broke the 5000 meter world record while drunk. Wuslinsky has trouble staying on the track while sober.
this cant be legit. I was a D2 runner in college. I won our annual beer mile, granted i destroyed the field, in 5:25. I AM NOT TROLLING. There was actual video, i used bud light bottles, and won by over a minute. If that is the official beer mile records..... i would be the world record holder. Again, i am not trolling. I was a 2X Cross All American and an even better drinker. My interest is spiked now. Definitely got to look into this.
Also, the rules we went by back in the day stated that if you puked you could finish the race but your time would not count. Anyone else agree with this?
