I think she is capable of making the A standard in either the 1500 meters or the 5K. There is no sense in prejudging, in this case, what she and her coach think is possible. At this point it looks like she will be trying for the 1500 meters.
heard Zola Budd was giving her advice. Hope she keeps her shoes on.
Actually, she should be doing 800 meter races to improve her 1500 meter times. This is something her high school coach was trying to get her to do and of which she was very reluctant. Otherwise, the 5K may become her default race.

How many has Centro run?
It's all eyes on Vin now...she's clinging to the 1500 but shows a lot of strength at the 5k. He needs to figure out what her best event really is.
Word is Dr Armando Siqueiros will be Hasay's personal coach for the Olympic Trials.
Most 1500 meter runners use the 800 meter races for speed work. It is generally a good thing to work at. Vin Lananna has said that eventually Jordan Hasay will be a 5K runner. At this point she seems to be more comfortable with the 1500 meters. She already has the A standard for US Olympic trials at 4:10.28 and the B standard for the 5K at 15:41.00 within the qualifying time period beginning May 1, 2011..
Seem to forget that she was, what, the NCAA Indoor Athlete of the Year/Meet. Oh, she has also made the Final before when she was neither as fast nor as strong as she is now. The competition has gotten tougher but it depends on the nature of the race.
If Jordan Hasay makes the US Olympic team in the 1500m next year, then there are a lot of athletes who plain f**ked up. There is NO excuse for at least (staying healthy anyway) a half a dozen US women breaking 4.00 for 1500m next year, Hasay won't be one of them.
As to Centro - he ran well at Worlds (and NCAA's). But it also took some absolutely terrible racing by faster athletes for that to happen. Those idiots should either be shot or looking for a new coach, or take a good long look in the mirror to see what pussies they are. I know I wouldn't waste my time coaching guys who runs like ding-dongs in a championship final - they deserve any criticism that they get.

Half a dozen? Only 5 American women have ever broken 4 (not counting Jacobs' indoor time). I think you are underestimating how difficult it is.

Yes
+ Olympics> Some college team
She is doing the 1500m races to improve her 5k time. She is a 5k runner, and will be going for the 5k. Look, if you run the olympic A standard for the women's 5k you have got a good shot at making it. Most of our good distance ladies pick the 10k. Without Flanagan and Goucher running the 5k, Hasay as a great chance of making the team. She will need to drop around 22 seconds to do it, but she hasn't even come close to running a solid 5k effort for her, shes probably already capable of a 15:20.
You are right the 1500 meter races are good speed work for the 5K. She has not worked on her 800 meter times, and her best is only 2:09.xx at this time.
While I like Hasay, I just don't see her beating out a Diamond League champion (Uceny), a World Champion (Simpson), a World Championship medalist (Rowbury) and experienced sub-4 runners like Pierce and Wurth-Thomas. The U.S. has a really good group right, as good or better than anybody. If Hasay improved by a huge amount, say 5 seconds, that would still leave her 5 seconds short of everybody. If she had a great kick like Centro she might have a chance in a slow, tactical race which the Olympic Trials are likely to be -- but she doesn't. Her future's at 5,000. The Trials will be good experience for her, but nothing more.
She's right to think she'll place well at the trials. That being said, she's got some stiff competition and hasn't run the times indicative of her being competitive on the world level. For the 5k, she wasn't even qualified for Worlds. I think that skipping a season at Oregon is probably a bit premature unless she shows some serious improvement.
She'll make the 2016 team in the 5000
is it realistic for say, centrowitz to make the US team due to tactical failures at pedestrian paces, and then expand the success when the same mistakes are made at the global championships? of course not, right?

Yeah right, Because Vin has been rock solid with his collegiate athletes a few years after College. Just ask Hausers or Stember or Gabe Jennings. They were all NOT factors 2 years after College.
