Why did LR have such a hard on for Merv?
I thought it was fine for early days shot at this.
My favorite, from not long after Webb ran 3:53 at pre :

I like how many of the poster's handles have to do with Forest Gump!
Remember when Grote hates Frick and Frack of Stanford and had a hard on for Arkansas? Those were the days!

Contrary to what you think, Letsrun indeed WAS a good place for discussion several years ago. The lack of good posts is pretty much just the last 4 years or so.
History of the Internet: Running Division....
1. U of Oregon Track and Field listserv: I don't remember the year it started but I remember reading it in '96 thru '97.
2. RunGroteSchief.com: THE original, but with more feces. A lot more hot head college athletes posting here. I think one of or both of the Waytons almost got into a real fight with the Ohio State team over something said here. You think Letsrun is bad? RGS is Letsrun without a moderator.
3. TNFMedia: This is like a pulp comic that goes mainstream. Anyone have an alternative weekly newspaper? Anyone remember that weekly before they sold out to a big publisher? That's the difference between RGS and TNFMedia. Content is still there....but something was missing.
4. Letsrun: Started sometime in 2000 if I remember. So after RGS and around the same time as TNFMedia. Few trolls and feces fights than TNFMedia. The collapse of other message boards (TNFMedia, Dyestat, Merv, etc) led to the Letsrun of today.

I can guess the topic and first 5 posts with 99.9% certainty:
Topic: "Hottest US Female Runners"
post #1: Who are the hottest femake runners in the US?Discuss!
post#4: I am a female runner, so dissappointed in this new site...
Kemibe had a message board called Donnybrook which I visited once or twice and they were bigger a**holes than letsrun.
Also Coolrunning had some good message boards. I remember one guy lost all his running stuff in a fire so a bunch of us posters from all over the world donated race shirts and my wife made him a really big quilt.

Hello Mr Johnson come over here I wanna weird with you,
Airplane on treadmill?
I just spent ten minutes scrolling back through 468 pages of LR posts to go back exactly one year. How many pages exist on the site? Presumably could someone scroll back to the very beginning?

Does anyone remember when coolrunning was Kick?
If anyone is interested, which they're probably not, if you go to coolrunning.com via the waybackmachine you can read the posts (!) on the forums via the forum link from the main page, or at least you can in "The Track". I've found some of mine from 2002. Amazed it is still accessible.
