Aside from the fact that they DIDN'T. The Madagascar raid in 2008 produced NO evidence, and in fact the Madagascar government has backed Gibson and their proof that the rosewood was legally forested. The government, despite this, and despite not ever finding any proof for their argument, refuses to give back the nearly 2 million dollars in confiscated lumber. Gibson has been forced to file civil claims for it.

The current raids this last month have to do with India wood, which wasn't illegally harvested from rainforests, but rather possibly violated an Indian law requiring lumber products forested in India go through Indian manufacturers BEFORE leaving the country (A law, by the way, which is in violation of WTO bylaws)

So glad to see the U.S. government treating one of the last companies that keeps their entire production in the U.S. so well.

The two U.S. Guitar companies in right to work states are Gibson in Tennessee, and Peavey in Mississippi...both have been the target of multiple lawsuits or crackdowns from the government since 2009, while Fender, Rickenbacher, DanElectro, MusicMan, ESP, Spector, Martin, Ovation, Guild, Hamer, Carvin, Alvarez, B.C. Rich, Heritage, Washburn, and Taylor are all in so called "forced-union" states (California, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Michigan, Missouri and Illinois) and haven't been subject to the same scrutiny. Sadly many of those companies farm their work out to third world countries.

This is literally a matter of whether or not the wood was sanded before being imported. If it's not sanded it can't be imported, if it is sanded it can be.

Obviously they broke the rules, but sanding the wood here or there doesn't affect the rain forest any.

The naïveté of several of the posters here concerns me. I find it very difficult to believe that there are still citizens in the USA who believe that the government is out for their good.

A business gets raided by armed agents of the government and some idiots think that it's a good thing.

For those who think that way, I hope you get arrested on a technicality and spend $$$$ bucks defending yourself against an obscure law and spend time in jail so you lose your assets during the meantime. Maybe then you will realize that uncle Obama and the Dems and the GOP aren't your friends.
