Question for Flagpole,
My PR is 1:15 (set many years ago) and I was training for a 1:25-1:30 half which I think could have happened had I been well. It didn't, so perhaps another half later in the summer or early fall.

Thanks for letting me continue to know I can believe in something other than God, Fred Rogers, Jimmy Carter, Charles Schultz the lovely Mrs. Flagpole Willy and tasty burgers at In-N-Out.
"But FP, you don't eat beef!"
True, but I did once upon a time.
"Oh man, now Flagpole's having conversations with himself".
"Probably because he sucks as a runner and even more as a father and husband - if he even got a woman to marry him."
Stop beating around the bush, Flagpole. I'm looking for a time to give me some sort of arbitrary goal as I start my comeback. I know it wasn't your best race but it'll help me get out the door each day if I have something in mind.
Thanks.

Dude, you make a good plea, but you shouldn't base your time goal on a bad race of mine, so I'll just keep it to myself.
Just set an arbitrary goal you think you might reach - even set a range if you like. Put the race at least 3 months out (based on your current level of fitness, you might need to put it out longer), do some training with some nice tempo runs and even a 10K or 15K in there to see where you are and then bust a good half.
keep it to yourself - you suck

THAT was expensive as was Palo Alto where I also lived,
Wow, did you ever visit track and field news while you were living there. that must have been really cool. When i was a younger teenager I always dreamed of going to Palo Altos to visit TF&N. I also wanted to go to Eugene for the Olympic Trials, but they always have them in Sacramento. Sometimes I wish Eugene was still important like when my hero Pre was still alive. Sacramento is not so cool as Eugene back when they had Athletics West and stuff.

Mr Man,
No, I never went to Track and Field News. I worked for a publishing company in Palo Alto, and the publisher Doug Latimer (at one time a world class ultramarathoner and former winner of Western States 100) used to work for Track and Field News in some capacity. He was one interesting guy and a hell of a runner even in his 50s when I worked for him. He'd be about 63 now and I'm sure still a bad ass runner.
Yes, FrontRunner is a decent running store. But so is Second Sole of Gahanna and Second Sole of Delaware. In fact, Second Sole of Delaware is the ONLY place that I'm aware of that offers a free treadmill gait analysis of any of the local store. Prices and selection are similar at all of these stores but you are much more likely to get a deal at either of the Second Sole stores, especially Delaware.
kamikaze,
You have received good advice. I would think Westerville or the area near #315 & #23 on the north side seem like good areas for you. This would leave you fairly close to Highbanks Metropark (IMHO, without peer, runningwise, in the metro area). Dirt shaded trails with rolling grades. Sharon Woods is also nearby with Blendon Woods & Blacklick being fairly close as well. The high schools there have good facilities as does Otterbein College, and OSU is only 15 minutes away. All entertainment is pretty accessible from any part of the city. The living areas I mentioned do not have the cultural divisity of the Short North, German Village, Victorian Village, etc. but probably is a better trade-off for a serious runner. The Dublin, Hilliard, Worthington areas can get quite slow from a traffic standpoint, but I guess most areas of a large city can face that. The mentioned areas away from the city such as Slate Run & Chestnut Ridge are great, and those in the Hocking Hills are spectacular. E-mail me and I can hook you up with people of similar running ability. Hope this helps.
Hey D.F.
Read my post, No penquins allowed at FR, yes Ian did at one time did work at SS Gahanna and is a fantastic talented runner, doing very well at nationals. SS Gahanna gives the same courtesy and consideration to every customer whether penquin or elite. This service is sometimes lacking at FR, especially if KO is working the floor.
I do disagree with running talent between the two stores. FR has many marathon and ultra runners. SS Gahanna has collegiate and HS runners and \"were\" good runners at Ashland but none doing the big miles. Their top 7 at 5k or below, FR top 7 at 13.1 or above.

Thanks for pointing out the disparity in ?talent?. Items like age, distance race and personal goals make this an apple and orange comparison. I have known KO for many years and traveled to several ultras around the country with him. We do disagree on business philosophies, which is one reason why some folks thought I was behind Fleet Feet coming to the area. I would never say KO is wrong or that another establishment was ?wrong? in the way they conducted business. I always use fast food as a comparison when presenting business plans. McDonalds and Wendy?s? have basically the same product. They just tweaked it and present it in different fashions. Each has a loyal following and there are other?s that frequent both. Neither is ?wrong?, just different and I would concur that both are ?successful?.
why not come on down to Cincinnati/Northern Ky?
Columbus is and hour and a half north.

Did a half marathon in early April and haven't raced since - I was sick with a sinus infection that day and then it was windy with sleet and 33 degrees - not the perfect combination. A very slow time for me was the result.
Might run a 5K on Memorial Day, but I haven't decided yet.
You?
The Frontrunner or any other running shoe store will cater to anyone willing to buy. Think about it man. How many truly good runners are out there? I personally don't think someone is considered more of a runner than someone else just because they run more miles. I live in an area now where a whole bunch of people run more miles than I, but they don't beat me in a race. No big deal. Our definition of runners are obviously different. I don't stick around for the Panera Bagels.

????,
Well, not really. He says he's fast enough to make the Olympic team. I'm not and never was even in my prime. Clearly stated, and clearly obvious since I've posted my major PRs here many times. Based on my training I should have been able to run that half marathon of mine at least 10 miniutes faster than I did, but I was sick, so that was that.

What? Panera keeps the Penquins coming back time and time again. Panera helps to keep Columbus Ohio among the top 5 fattest ass cities in America - along with Buckeye Football. Ole'

Buckeye football keeps people in Columbus fat? How?
I think it's all the eating people here in Ohio do that keeps them fat.
Also, just need to disagree with you about the Penguins once again (just because what would a day be if you and I DIDN'T disagree?). NO ONE goes to a race for the bagels. If that were true, then why not just meet at the bagel shop and eat bagels? They go for the exercise and the fresh air and comraderie. Some people (mostly Penguins) rationalize the fact that they just jogged a few miles so they can eat a ton of bagels or other things, but no one runs 3.1 miles or further just for bagels.
culture my friend, culture. Tis culture that makes people fat - or at least creates the atage. Give people excess or a reason to excess - and they will they are fat, fat, fat., fat penquins at the Panera races....
16x,
So you're saying that people over eat while watching Buckeye football games?
I guess I could agree with that, but there are only 14 or even fewer of those each year, so I can't see how that can make people fat.
Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter.
