Wow. I definitely remember him. I'm very happy for him, and it'd be great to see him compete at the national level after all this time.

YSL is definitely the one leading in that youtube shot. The yellow Brooks singlet in the pack is Jake Schmitt
that's awesome. I remember what a tremendous talent he was. As a sophomore, I think that he ran low 9 for 2M and ran very fast at Mt Sac in XC, right? He also ran 14:27 5k on the track as a soph! And then he was getting married/moonied, and dropped the sport. (well, a very attractive bride: http://www.talk.dyestat.com/showthread.php?t=89351) But now he's running 4:42 for 6 miles!! More power to him for getting back to that level.
This dude didn't even run in college... Amazing
Oh and btw, Jake Schmitt is bats for the other team... Not that there's anything wrong with that!
This is one of those threads/situations that seemingly could have happened every day for the last five years. Funny when you're randomly browsing LRC and stuff like this pops up.
Props to YSL. I've made jokes about him in the past, but it's cool to see him back on the horse and throwing down.
But as a Mexican-Korean, is he considered American-born?
crap he could have said there were 40 elites, would have made my day.
Crossing my fingers now for Amber Trotter...
I saw him last week running at Bancroft, weaving in and out of the walkers and kids on bikes, very smoothly going 20 minutes at 5min pace on the approx. 380 meter track -- he seemed really happy.
He's single now according to his facebook.. This guy might actually have a shot at the trials. So glad to see him back!
wrong about the track, it is even shorter than that -- maybe 320 meters.
I wonder what his mileage is like?
He can't be single - arranged marriages don't fail.
yes, he is single.. not married anymore.
He's back baby!!!!
bump... where's the love?
Is he still a Moonie, or did that go out the window with the marriage?
Not sure if he's still a Moonie... but here's a sweet pic of him and Gotcher after the race
P.S. Yong-Sung said that his legs "felt like rubber" after the 3-mile mark in Sunday's race and that he could feel how out of shape he was for the long distance. Anyway, he persevered and hit 28:11. He'll now start moving up his mileage (carefully with his coach's guidance -- same coach he's had since middle school, Mike Exton). Til now, he's only been training 4-5 miles a day, with no speed work. I expect that to change soon. -- Yong-Sung's dad
