I think you bring up a very interesting point with regard to somehow including sunshine (vs. cloud over) in the heat index (aka ‘misery index’).
This week I slogged through a couple of two hour runs, in which I tried to keep my heart rate around 75%MaxHR. Temps were in the mid 90’s, the Dew Point was in the lower 70’s, and the heat index was ~107F. Both runs were on a bit hilly trail, with most of it under a tree canopy.
In those conditions, the difference in comfort between being in shade vs. full sun exposure is HUGE. And having at least a bit of breeze can also make a big difference in comfort.
Wow!! Just came across an interesting read:
“(Heat Index) values are for shady locations only.Exposure to full sunshine can increase heat index values by up to 15°F (8°C).“
!!! up to 15°F !!!
