Like most gentlemen in the South, I don't wear socks unless I am running.
I wear dress shoes to work everyday.
Socks are what make your feet smell like shit. Let your feet breath.
Is it a Southern thing?
I don't wear socks at all. Not with dress shoes, not with running shoes. I also don't wear underwear.
And, Vibrams are for foot fetishist f****** (nice bit of alliteration there).

No, I don't wear loafers, if this is what we're calling a loafer:
http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Prada-Leather-Penny-Loafer-Shoes/2622068/product.htmlI wear stylish dress shoes that are flexible and don't crunch my toes into a V in the front (see my post above). But I would NEVER think of going without socks. Jesus! I used to wear sneaks without socks when I was a kid and those shoes smelled like old canned asshole! Plus, I don't want blisters. I'm on my feet a lot in my job. I wear socks like every other person around here does.
Most of the guys I see with Vibrams are 40+ year old runners looking for every little shortcut before the rapidly approaching end of their career.
I do see a lot of people, even at work, with their bare feet hangin' out during the summer. I mean, their toes aren't covered at all!
These are (mostly) female people. I've noticed that having toes (even bare toes) show at work is somehow okay if it's women wearing sandals or other "summery" footwear in a biz cazh place. But males wearing sneakers? No way.

Wow, I sense a lot of hostility. I am an attorney, and I wear loafers to work all of the time. I never wear socks with shoes, especially dress shoes.
Here are two of my most recent purchases:
http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/product_6470881_1_40000000001_-1?top_category=120552http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/product_3160000_1_40000000001_-1?top_category=120552http://www.sperrytopsider.com/store/SiteController/sperry/productdetails?stockNumber=0799320&showDefaultOption=true&skuId=***7********0799320*M100&productId=7-100810&catId=cat100066DM
I would not dream of wearing socks with any of these three.
If I have to wear some sort of oxford shoe, I will occasionally add a sock (say to a funeral or something). Otherwise, I skip them altogether.
I do wear underwear.
My feet do not sweat without socks. They don't smell, either. I know, I know, you are thinking that I am just unaware of the smell, but I can assure you that I am very careful with my hygiene.
Socks are not my thing. I am not alone.
Sorry, added a third link despite me saying two...
To make it even more fun I added a broken link.
Thanks LRC.
Funny how the people wearing Vibrams are also the same idiots extolling fads like "Crossfit" and P90X....even funnier that people like me who win local and regional road races don't wear vibrams or run barefoot. Sure sign of bush league athletes....fad followers.

Some fashion choices make me wince... but no doubt they're considered cool by that person's circle of friends. :)
