I agree with not focusing on the winner. Watch some of the videos with the British guy (like the 72 Oly 5000). He names every runner as they cross the line and the camera stays on them.
The whiny little bitches are at it again. Maybe the TV Networks will do them a favor and not show any T&F.
The coverage ceertainly wasn't perfect but it DID NOT ruin my day.
I'll be glad to NEVER have NBC ever broadcast TnF ever again. Thanks. They'll be doing all of us a favor. Runnerspace and Flotrack for me!

After that telecast I would much rather have flotrack or runnerspace be given the full rights. At least then I can go to one place to watch the meet, and don't miss entire high-profile events such as a diamond league women's 5k and men's 800m.
Also, everyone else here is right, the call during the distance races is generally appalling. Today's 2-mile race was just one of many examples in the last several years.
Bump
I can't really complain about seeing track on tv but why when they show the results they only show the top 3 instead of showing all finishers. They have every diamond league graphic except for the results.

Listen, Whiny Big Bitch, no one said it ruined their day -- we've said that the Coverage Was Horrible.
It was pathetic, worse than the usual crappy announcing.
What people are saying it that they would like to see the sport Respected and presented Intelligently...instead of with the lazy and incompetent presentation and performance that was offered.
Get it, BITCH?
The commentators during the 10k webcast weren't much better
+1 on not showing all the finishers times.
Also, as a runner, I won't complain about the shorter coverage of field events, but here too they should at least display the results, not just show the winning jump or throw.
Lastly, 3 years after they covered the Beijing Olympics, they still haven't bothered to learn how to pronounce it properly. Not very complicated: "Bay-Jing", not "Bay-Zhing". If they can learn that Carmelita Jeter is pronounced "Jetter" instead of "Jeeter", they can get this right, too.

That's pretty much how I feel about it now. I used to just be happy that track on TV, but after seeing meet after meet on television where the coverage and announcing are both infuriatingly awful, I'd rather just watch the meets on the Flotrack or Runnerspace. Yeah, the sport will get less exposure to the public because it's not on a major network, but when commentary and coverage suck as bad as NBC's I don't think the public is going to ever give two shits about track anyways.

Your attitude is why the sport will never grow.

Because you have low standards doesn't mean everyone else should as well.

You are right.
NBC showed four laps of the two mile. Runnerspace showed 25 laps of the 10,000. End of story. I often mute the commentary if it's bad, but for me the clincher is when it's online there are no commercials, no cut-aways to field events in the middle of major distance races and generally filmed by people who have actually spent some time on a track. Sure its not perfect, but Runnerspace and Flotrack do a pretty good job. Much, much better than the "professionals" at NBC.
Will there be British announcers in London 2012?

Agree. Those of us who have run a lot of track races, watched a lot of track, don't really need the announcing...but it is nice if the announcing at least adds and does not detract...and showing the women's 800 because of Semenya and not showing the men's... Crap.
Wariner getting 2nd in a race when he was expected to win and Bolden said he should win big is why you are so aghast? What guy in Boldon's role in another sport is 100% accurate? Jay Bilas? Barkley? Who?
So when he said Mullings would beat Tyson this past weekend with a great start and it would be close and that's exactly what happened, then what? STFU and stop wasting your time as though anyone cares what the f*** u think. Despite c***s like you, I and most others think Bolden brings a much-needed dimension to the broadcasts.
His job is not to be right every time.

Long time in-stadium English language announcer Bob Hersh has retired from announcing in the USA. I do not know if that retirements extend to The 2012 OGs. I'm guessing Garry Hill the other long time stadium English speaker for the Athletics portion of the OGs will be extended an invitation again. If BH is out the odds are high that an invitation will be extended to an official from GB or somewhere in the Commonwealth.
I am 100% sure Carol Zilli will not be in the running for the position should a replacement be needed.
