Look at her shoulders, arms, and forearms. That isn't perfectly thin.
&startOh please, let's not start with this anorexia thing. She looks very healthy, slim like any good runner, but healthy nonetheless. She has never been injured and has improved consistently, going from an elite 10:30 runner last year to a super elite sub 10 runner this year.
She looks fit, healthy, and happy and I'm sure we'll see a solid career from her.
Craig Virgin and I are salivating at the thought of Verzbicas and Beattie going to U of Illinois next year.
Anyone know if they've declared yet?
Hi Dave B, if you are on here - Congratulations, your daughter is doing an amazing job! I saw her run at NXN and she looked really strong. She's not as bouncy as you were! My daughter Andie is running 5:20s as a freshman at 5000 feet.
Congrats again,
Scott C from BG
you don't understand things do you? as in...how recruiting and signing and dates work
verzbicas is going to oregon, beattie to iowa
Actually, 4 girls did not get lapped. I only know this, cause the primary goal of my girl in the race was to not get lapped. I'm happy to say she didn't.

Yes a 9:56 from a HS girl is very impressive but these states results are not. I know at our state meet this weekend you won't be on the medal stand with an 11:15.
Amazing double by the girl, love to see progression in times from a HS girl phenom. Best of luck to her at Iowa.
FYI, Beattie was in the smaller 2A class. Illinois is spread over three classes, times are significantly faster in 3A, although there have been faster years in Illinois. The weather in our region this season was lousy, that may have something to do with the slower times this year, for everyone except for Beattie that is...
I also compared last years results to this years and in comparison there were 15 girls who went sub 11:00 last year, as apposed to only 7 this season. Weather in Illinois seems to have hampered the times somewhat.
Another factor to consider is the order of events in Illinois. The 3200 relay precedes the 3200 by only one event (3200 relay, 400 relay, 3200 are the first three events of the meet). Many of the potential contenders in the 3200 were on 3200 relay teams (and those times in AA were really fast this year). The 1600 is run near the end of the meet and tends to draw the better field because of it. The weather was a slight issue, but I don't think it had a huge effect on the times. Some of the times in the 1600 were slightly slower because the field was tactical after Beattie took off. I'm not sure if this happened in the 3200 (I didn't see the race).
Just incase you didn't know she is head to Iowa next year.
Beattie Vs Cuffe Vs. Pierce would be an INSANE 2 mile at nationals...all 3 have run around 9:56 now (or an equivalent 3k)
and to whoever said this wasn't a surprise because she ran 10:16 and 10:17 indoors and a 10:06 this season is dead wrong. I know you were trying to give her credit as someone who's been on the scene for a while, but we've seen runners like hasay hover around the 10:04-10:07 area for YEARS before dipping under that 10:00 mark. For a H.S. girl the difference between 9:56 and 10:06 (not to mention 10:16) is HUGE, and this should be a shocking performance to anyone, even those who have followed this girl's very impressive career from the beginning
everyone know those tracks in illinois are short
I dunno I am not shocked. when I was a sophomore in high school, I ran 10:12 indoors then ran 9:54 out doors. I don't see much of a difference, other than the fact that you are saying there is, and using caps lock.
Well, typically she goes out in about 4:52 or so, so she probably figured she'd need to be a bit faster to go sub-10.
Baxter beats all 3 girls easily. They are great, Baxter is unbeatable. She has another gear that would leave these 3 in her wake. Just sayin'
Baxter could win on a hilly XC course, but she's not run that fast for 3200m yet.
