Just gut feelings here, but no way in heck he breaks her time first time out. And that's without knowing his training.

How stupid are you? You linked something saying he was an AA.
??? inspired by the autobiography of Pat Tillman?
they got the name of the book wrong.. it's Where Men Win Glory
and it's not an autobiography.. it's by J. Krakauer
He's clearly good for Shalane in her life and apparently in her running. Whatever works. They're a good team.

Check it again moron. Maybe you need some glasses.
Im not usually one to jump into a fight, but seriously dude I dont see it either. Where is it? XC, indoor, outdoor?

Indoor and outdoor, it is plain as day.
It plainly isn't there. Again, what makes you think a 1:52 would earn AA honors?
People usually marry for love, not track times.
Nonetheless, dude was a contributor on a major conference D-1 team. Which makes him better than 99% of this board.
Curious as to how well an 800m athlete (apparently his event??) translates over to a marathon?
I'm going to play it safe and go with DNF.
No to mention 6'2" 200 lbs seems pretty big.

From what I've read he's been pacing Shalane through most of her workouts since she went to Shumacher, so that would mean he's been doing 10k- marathon training for over a year now, at least.

Could be interesting then.
Years in the sport at a high level. Relationships get built with meet directors and shoe companies. ( years in the sport )
Working for a shoe company gaining athlete/event experience can be helpful as you work across many areas of the sport and gain a broader scope.
Law degree does not do much , all the companies have their own "consultant" contracts that are spelled out and cannot be changed. Only blank that gets filled in is the base dollar amount. Bonus structures are standard.
Races in Europe you need a real understanding of the meets , its budget and a stable of other runners to balance your portfolio , hard to deal with a one off athlete.
Marathons are easier but you have to know true market value and potential.
Doing deals for a spouse is not suggested as emotions can get in the way of rational thought.

Seriously? You are going to take his bio from 2001 and make a comment like that? From when he was running 800s and lifting daily?
You people are seriously stupid. Really stupid.

Apparently that was personal to you or you just have a crazy habit of over reacting. Either way I've seen him recently and he doesn't appear that much lighter.
But then again, I didn't ask him to step on a scale to verify this assumption.
I also don't know many people who have dropped from 6'2" 200 lbs to 2:20 "type" weight either. Usually these people have a certain body type that prevents this. Or, looking at it differently a 2:20 guy probably couldn't put on 200lbs worth of healthy athletic related weight/muscle.
Anyway. I never stated I was the expect. Simply an observation. And thank you for you 1st grader response.
You guys are a trip. Steve was a great hs runner and didn\'t have the best college career, but did meet shalane there. He\'s a great guy, easy to get along with and a bulldog, which i am sure helps at the negotiation table. Some of you folks will learn at some point that times alone don\'t make the man!
lets make this a positive thread. Everyone who is doubting Steve can do it. Why don't you put up $50-$100 and donate it to the charity if Steve succeeds.
just wondering? how many of you ran 1:52 or the equivalent for your event in HS or for that matter in college. Pretty damn good if you ask me...
Good luck Mr. Flanagan
Many of you guys seem to be operating under the assumption that running fast is what does/should attract hot girls like Shalane. I know, it doesn't seem fair.
