they changed the venue to the roads, to take advantage of the freakish winds. GF first in 3:17, but it was just because he was feeling really good. He didn't even feel the seventy mile an hour wind at his back.
Come on German, make non-believers believe!
all jokes aside, is this race actually happening after the delay?
From what I was told the elite 1500 is supposed to be run after the 4x4's. Last I heard everything was 30 minutes behind. Lots of rain falling in Fayetteville.

All I know is this: every weekend Fernandez/OkSt is making that Michael Matthews guy look prophetic.
Wish him the best as I'm definitely a GF fan.
I wouldn't say that. It's not prophetic, it's common sense that it was a terrible decision for him to go to OSU.
And I really don't feel like he will run this weekend. Just a hunch. I doubt he will run again until conference. Which may not be a terrible idea, he should avoid getting embarrassed on a weekly basis and gain some confidence through tough workouts with his teammates.
That being said, I am a GF as well and wish him the best, and by the best I mean a quick separation from Dave Smith and OSU.

Yeah, an individual NCAA championship, top 15 at World Junior Cross, NCAA indoor record, US Junior Outdoor record, and two NCAA Cross-country Team Championships sucks. I wouldn't go to OSU if that's the type of stuff they produce...

Look...I have said several times, and it has been proven several times. He was still riding the wave from his high school training when he won his individual championships and set his PRs. It was within 12 months of his HS training. In the 2-3 years since then he has done nothing. His team is great because he is a great recruiting tool that has lured in incredible HS runners. It will be proven again the next time he races. It will be proven again if he is still there next year. But, luckily for Dave Smith, he already has recruited enough incredible runners by using German's name that he will be set up for years to come for the team championships.

Nothing has been proven once, let alone several times. Are you going to attribute last fall's NCAA XC to his high school training as well? And where do you get this golden rule that any performance within 12 months must be the result of his previous training? Are you saying that absolutely nothing Smith did (and German did, for that matter) at Oklahoma contributed to his indoor solo 3:55 and his outdoor frosh 1500m title? Because if you are, then you know even less about this sport than I thought you did, which is saying something.

i'll admit, gf hasn't had that edge you have to have when trying to win races. almost has kinda just gone through the motion in races. But u can't say he hasn't run fast in some. mind you the biggest difference lately as apposed to his freshman yr is his consistency from race to race. However, he did run 7:53 at UW during this past indoors. now thats not a mind-blowing time but thats def equal to a sub 4 indoor mile.

Wow, you are right. In fact, I would bet to say that Derrick has been riding high school too. I mean after that sub-14 he ran and a Nike Cross title, he's got at the least this spring to ride until he runs out of time and begins producing performances unworthy of letsrun praise.
Listen, if you are implying that one's fitness builds over the years and the accumulation of mileage ultimately leads to better performances (in many cases), then in all honesty you are correct, German was riding the mileage he ran in high school...and in middle school playing soccer or whatever, and when he was 5 running in the yard. He just was top-10 in NCAA cross this past fall helping his team win, as stated he ran 7:53 in the 3k this winter. Dave Smith has done a great job training GF when he is healthy and like many other great runners he has unfortunately dealt with many injuries...just like another "prodigy", Ritz. Give him time and health and he'll be just fine.
German needs to transfer to Oregon. His career, whatever is left (and believe me there is a lot left), will blossom. Look what David Klech has done. Unbelievable.
soooooo..... hows the race progressing, if at all?
The meet is scheduled to resume at 8:15, putting it 2:15 behind, so unless they change the event order, the invite 1500 will be at 11:00, at which time the forecast is a 100% chance of rain/thunderstorms.
German needs to go pro.
It took Klech 3 years to come around.

That's what it is going to take for German. He's an awesome talent, but his coaches are pushing and rushing him. Any injury prone runner has to come into their own both physically and mentally. That takes some time. German would be awesome under the right system.
In progress guize!

I dunno, he was injured more often than he was healthy through high school, and he seemed to do pretty well. German is tremendously talented, and he gets hurt easily. Has he had an injury free 12 month period since he started running?
The notion that he ran 13:25 and 3:55 based solely on training he did 6 and 9 months prior is idiotic. If his HS training had him ready for 3:55, he would have broken 4 in High School. If his HS training had him ready for 13:25, he would have run under 8:20 at NON. German made HUGE gains in his first year at OSU, an order of magnitude beyond what he did before college. Unfortunately he is, and likely always will be, an injury prone runner. He was in HS, he is in college, and he will be as a pro.
