Solomon ran real slow the first couple of laps, then found him self about 200m behind, he slowly started making up the deficit, until he was about 100m behind, and the gap to him and the field stayed that way for a few laps, then he just stepped off.
One of the strangest things I have ever seen. Did he fall down and I missed it? He was jogging for a while, then all of a sudden ran a few 69s, then stepped off around 5k.
Decent run by Cabada - haven't seen much from him in a while.
What's with Cabada being apparently unable to look straight ahead for more than a few strides early on? Super-ADD or trying to seem superior ("This is soooo easy and boring..)?
O'Lionaird wasn't too happy with Cheseret.
well if he's training the same way he was last year with the same idiot for a coach...this will be the highlight of his outdoor season. as it was last year...
last year he was training himself and bouncing around between colorado and oklahoma from what I understand, I heard he's training with brent vaughn and jay johnson now in boulder
Did Renee Metvier get dropped by Jay Johnson? I heard that she was a pain to coach?
renee is a tough competitor, it was a pretty mutual agreement/understanding and her husband is now coaching her
Two notes about big names with disappointing performances:
1. Mercado's shoe was gushing blood after the race. Not just blood-covered, but actually seeping blood out on to the track every step because the shoe material was saturated. I have seen worse in marathons, but never in a track race. Apparently a blood blister popped.
2. Solomon Haile was way off the back incredibly early. Our theory was that he lost his shoe and had to go back to get it and put it on. If you watch the video at 400m he's right in the middle of the pack and by 800m he's 40m behind second-to-last. I took a few splits of his during the race to see if he was just running really slow and they were 69-70-70, which is just as fast as the main pack was running, so I assume there was some issue that forced him way to the back of the field.

So? Is that a disadvantage on a dry track for a 10k?
Why don't you check the footwear in the finals of every Oly/WC 10000 for the last, oh, five or six decades and get back to me.

BTW he closed in 60.
Flats make just about no difference in a time trial race.
Maybe you should notify Rupp of this wisdom before he goes for sub-27:00 this spring, Herr Grosskopf. Who needs lighter weight, superior push-off flexibility and additional traction? Hell, a pair of Nike Shox would fill the bill and give a nice bump for his sponsor.
