Who is Matt Sonnenfeldt?
True that he did solo an 8:53 - but it was on his rival school's track, and he did not lap the entire field. Second place was around 9:27, IIRC, and Bumbi separated from everyone immediately from the gun.
He's a hell of a nice guy, a fierce competitor, and a gracioius victor. I was one of the ones consistently competing for 2nd behind him, and I can tell you that none of us are surpsised by his recent successes.
sophomore year of college he had a great year. He went sub 4, had the best anchor leg by 2 seconds at NCAAs in the DMR and then the next day just lost out to Kyle Alcorn (who was having the best weekend of his career) in the 3k. In the DMR, Georgetown finished 5th with a 50 and a 1:52 (dropped baton I think), because he split 3:56.1. Junior year was a lot of red-shirt action, but went 13:30 unattached mid season. Senior year he was top 10 at XC nats, then got mono indoors. Coming back slowly from the mono, he placed third outdoors at NCAAs in the 5k behind McNeill and Chelanga (ahead of Derrick) and then 2 weeks later was 3rd at USAs in the 5k. He recently got 2nd at USA XC and could have possibly won had he not run such a conservative first 2/3rds of the race.

Bumby also made the US jr world XC team as a frosh at Gtwn in winter and he also ran at the world jr's as the US rep for the 1500 and 5k--pretty sure he made the world jr 1500 final finishing ahead of Acosta, the other more hyped US team guy.
general consensus (and an accurate one): If this is the first you're hearing of andy bumbalough, you don't follow the sport closely enough to care
I remember reading about this guy in a magazine like 6 years ago. He was a nationally ranked runner in HS.
He's the next GWH - judging from the responses on this thread.
17 year old kenyan, same bone and muscles, ran 12:53.
He was pretty beastly in High School too... I think it was a one day triple where he won the 3200 (I can't remember the time I know it was low low 9's), the 1600 in 4:05, and the 800 in 1:53.99... He's always been badass just under the radar really, glad to see he finally broke out and threw down very good time... props Bumby!
Little known fact: Quenton Cassidy lived on Bumby Avenue as a child in Orlando.
YOUGOTTHATRIGHT
Anyone know why Curtis didn't run the Melbourne 5000, considering he is training down there?

Lost to Doogie Howser at Nationals.
I don't think Doogie is good enough for Nationals. He's mainly a sprinter. Plus I think he's now still in HS, a senior, I think at Dixie HS. He may have graduated last year but I'm not sure.
Andy Bumbalough may be a good runner and all but I don't feel obligated to know everyone with a 5k pr in the mid 13:30s. That's not very good on the world scene you see. Now that he's faster I've heard of him. Winning the South Region at Footlocker doesn't mean I know who you are. I follow the people who are at the top of the sport, which means I can name a lot of Africans. I think that's at least as justified as knowing who the second tier Americans are.

Hmm, well I.m thinking the OP is referring to the fact that the press release said Andy Bumbalough instead of Andrew...
Either way, i like to see a thread devoted to bumbi
True that, Bumbi threads are few and far between. Now if only he could shake this "Andy" nickname the internet has tried to give him for years. Andrew or Bumbi, get with the program people.
So...is Bumbi as good as Teg? It's been long enough that Teg can no longer use the whole "coming back from injury" thing. Bumbi dealt with injuries and mono the last few years.
Is Bumbi legitimately as good as Teg? How crazy is that?
I don't think people realize how insane it is that Bumbi just ran a 14 second PR to become the 25th fastest American at 5k ever in March - while in shape to run a 2:04/1:56 4 flat mile in December, and get second at USA cross.
I assumed when he was signed that he'd be a young talent who would be significantly behind his training partners for a couple years and then maybe, if the training went well, he'd step up to fill their shoes down the line. I had no idea he would immediately join their ranks on their level. Amazing, and very exciting to see.
He went to the same high school as Brandan Wright.
Bumbler...he had lots of injuries throughout college and battled through mono as well which is why he was so under the radar. I can't wait to see how he continues to improve and perform. And please everyone stop calling him "Andy". It's Andrew or Bumbi.

He ran 3:38 and 13:30 before his senior year. He was definitely more accomplished than Jager was when he went pro with Jerry
This year's "Breakout Boy".
Never heard of him either. He will disappear soon, doesn't seem to be more than an alsoran.
