I cannot confirm the reports that she is going to Mammoth but as an associate of the NY-NJ Track Club I can confirm that she will not be joining the Gagliano group.

Say goodbye to your career Angela
Bizzarri. Two z's, two r's.
This girl is 30 seconds behind the top Americans and a minute behind the World Leaders. She will never do anything. She thinks 60 mpw is good. This is a typical Brooks signing. She has no future. If she was any good she would be with Nike.

Typical apathetic, defeatist, crybaby American Chicken Hawk Coward's attitude.

Wrong. There are a ton of other California people in Mammoth who ran in college or are serious gearheads, and know Deena and the other MTC people, who also snowboard in the winter. I periodically see Meb on the trails in SD, and in Mammoth. I have in-laws who ran with Deena's husband at Adams. I know at least a dozen people who are former college runners with condos in Mammoth, not to mention the tons of California HS and college teams who are there every Summer.

That's just Bizarre
No it is not. Mammoth is full of LA people who own condos, time shares, and make family ski and fishing trips all year around. Deena is from Los Angeles and as most of MTC, Mammoth & Sierra skiiers and fisherman.
Even the US Marines from Camp Pendleton make the easy drive from San Diego and 29 Palms to the USMC Bridgeport base for the world's toughest mountain warfare training.
Mammoth is privately owned and is a easy drive all year around from L.A., even now in the middle of the winter. Most of 395 is 4 lanes now. Cal Trans keeps 395 open and the snow pack is in the mountains but not it the valley where 395 is. There's 2 flights per day from LAX to Mammoth.
In contrast, 120, 108, and highways from Stockton & Modesto through Yosemite are closed all winter. It's a harrowing drive from the Silicon Valley / SF Bay Area via Lake Taco. Now they have daily flights from SFO and SJC to make it easier for Frisco people to get to Mammoth.
West LA to Mammoth Lakes is less than a 5 hour drive.
Well, you weekend joggers know best than a multiple NCAA Champ and All-American runner...

Mammoth CA is tinseltown? HUH??Mammoth is 95% LA people who live in timeshares who fish and ski. MTC runners shock everyone the 1st time they see them. They think they area extras for a Holocaust movie. Mammoth, Mono, June Lake, Bishop, Ridgecrest, Tecopa, Manzanar Concentration Camp Natl Monument, i.e. that whole US 395 higway, is effectively LA.
Well,it's at least where LA gets its water.

Add Kara Goucher in that list and explain to me why Angela Bizzarri is significant?
4 sources for l.a. water
1)ground aquifers
2)sacratomato river
3)mono lake
4)colorado river
good deal since l.a. is the undisputed track and field capitol of the world with the summer olympic, iaaf outdoor world championships, & major marathon wins to back up that claim.
Angela has run 15:33.02 PR from 2009. She ran 15:37 and 15:39 in 2010.

God you people are idiots.
You're talking about how a woman who finished 3rd (IIRC) at the USA championships is NOT significant. A woman who won 3 National titles in college.
At the same time, male runners like Bumbalough and Miller, with completely unimpressive resumes, comparitively, are being touted as near-future 13:10 guys who will be adding to our incredible men's 5k depth.
Double standard much?
Bizzarri is more significant and more important than almost any of the recent mens graduates who are getting so much love. PRs aren't everything...she ran her PR in that USA race, I believe. PR from a tactical race where she beat a number of women with considerably faster PRs...hmm, bet that's SUPER indicative of her raw ability time-wise. Not.
Christ.
A girl who ran 15:33 two years ago running 50 mpw, has won 3 NCAA titles, and was still highly competitive last outdoor season despite numerous foot/lower leg injuries is VERY significant.
Not saying Angela is going to be a world-beater. But give her a few years of development at the Pro level and she'll be one of America's better female distance runners and contribute to ever-increasing depth.
But you're right. The woman who finished 3rd in the country two years ago doesn't deserve to be a pro...
Agreed! Thanks for straightening these morons out. It's almost as if you're not running the best times NOW, that there's no way you can actually Improve to be a sub 15 type gal. I'd guess that Angela's 5k PR from college is at least as fast as Dina's was coming out of Arkansas? Give her a break guys. And to all the haters of Mammoth. I can't think of many places better to train. It's amazing up there.

I think she could be, she more untapped potential than anyone else I could think of her age.
She runs 60 miles per week on a high week. Imagine if she started running 80 over this year and next year. She would be a beast in time for the Olympics.
Not really. She runs 56 a week (not 60). This has been an increase from 54 (according to her). She insists that she gets hurt on any more than that.
This one is a real project.

To be fair, Jeremy Rasmussen (the womens coach at Illinois) is completely incompetent and an utter moron. That he was so successful with Bizzarri is a testament to her ability, not to the coaching.
We'll see how she responds over time to a mileage increase now that she should have a coach who isn't an utter imbecile.
Still, I don't think Bizzarri will ever be a world-beater. I think she'll probably be a 15:05-10 type. Still, that's very good. And better than a lot of the guys these Letsrun posters who are bashing Angela are supporting as huge talents.
I'll say it right now...in the long term Bizzarri will probably be a more important athlete than Bumbi, Craig Miller, Bobby Curtis, et. al.
She's a talent. We'll see what happens with her.
My only point is that the suggestion she is somehow not a real pro or not deserving of the attention given to a "real" (Nike?) pro is absurd. She has as much upside as anyone outside of maybe Koll or Huddle.
excellent post! wrote:

Drossin/Kastor would have been real fodder for the LR gristmill when she came out of College. She was injured much of her last couple of years at Ark (went from 15.45 to 16.45 for 5000m) and would have been deemed (outside her XC results)as a poor bet (waste of a pro contract) on these boards. You never know.
The direction for Bizzarri will be on how she adapts to increased mileage (if she can) or how much faster (800m speed) she can get - if the latter is an untapped area of development for her - for her to consider a 1500-5000m range (Like Rowbury). The point of speed is to determine whether you can hang and kick in heat-style races, and not just run time-trials (see Ritz in other thread). Otherwise (like Flanagan) you have to consider 5000/1000m as your better option.
