I dont care how good you are in HS, you cannot double your race distance in one year and expect to be just as stellar in college. True freshmen men running 10k is crazy. Even if you're sub-9 in HS, translating that to a 10k in one year is extremely difficult and only happens with guys naturally talented enough or ones that did higher mileage than most other high schoolers. I honestly didn't expect much of anything our of UNC men after they stepped up from 8 to 10k and their result doesn't surprise me.
How about RICHMOND?! Not a dime in scholarship money on the men's side and they're going to nationals. Huge props to those guys for getting it done. I'd bet they're the only team with zero scholarships to make it, AND that they're probably the first team in a decade to do it. For love or money? That's badass
