Thanks for posting this. I once saw Wardian interviewed after a marathon. He was very polite and before answering any questions he insisted on thanking all the volunteers for their time and effort to make things happen. I wish he could make the Olympic Team; that would be great.
Okay so if Wardian did make the Olympic Team, do you think he would keep racing a marathon every week, or would he actually train seriously and try to peak for the Olympics?
This is not a dumb question because he races all the time and doesn't try to peak for anything. People call him a BA for racing so much, but if he makes the Olympic team and continues to do that he'd ruin his chances to medal. That's why Sammy Kitwara wasn't allowed to race in Berlin: he qualified by winning the trials but ran too many races which Athletics Kenya claimed jeopardized his chances of winning a medal since he'd be fatigued.
Therefore, why would one want Wardian to qualify? Hell he'd probably run the USA 100 mile trail championships at the end of July as part of his prep for the Olympics if he qualified. All part of being so cool and racing all the time!!!!! And if he decided to train properly and taper etc, why would he change? If he takes the Olympic Marathon seriously, why wouldn't he take the trials seriously or any other "World Championship" that he does so he could win them? It would be a complete change in character. If he thought he could medal at the olympics by just racing a little less, then he should put his money where his mouth is and try WINNING the trials, or Comrades, or the 100k championships etc.
Anton K has a 5k PR somewhere around 17:XX... doubtful he could go under 2:35. Roes probably wouldn't care enough about getting off the trails to try. If Wardian worked on his trail skills he would crush any 50 miler in the US. Same With Uli S.
With the exception of Wardian, the North Face 50 coming up has almost every top trail guy in the US in it. Should be good to see Anton and Roes and Uli go head to head.
