How would spending more money (i.e using HMO and PPO instead of VA hospitals) reduce the federal budget? Private industry doesn't mean efficient. Look at medicare + and the student loan system for example where billions were fleeced from taxpayers.Unless you are willing to talk about cutting defense (DOD, homeland security, and the rest) by 30-50%, you are not going to be able to balance the budget. All the rest is just noise to prevent people from talking about the real problem. And once you can cut defense that much, then you can try and solve medicare....

The Post Office has to be spun off to private industry.
The VA Hospitals closed 100% and patients enrolled at taxpayers expense to HMOs and PPOs.
Retirement and Medical benes for president, senators, congress, politicians, bureaucrats, judges, safety workers, civil servants ended totally. (They can still buy their own insurance with their own money like we have to do).
