Ted Corbitt has influenced me to make my second career in physical therapy. I wish I had met him.
Gerry Lindgren may appear to lack character, but we would be wrong in that judgement. He showed character when he chose not become an alcoholic like his father, when he chose not to become a violent person like thousands of others whose fathers physically and verbally abused them, when he chose not to physically abuse his own children and wife, when he chose not kill himself, when he found a way to fit in somehow in high school as a runner, when he found a mentor (his coach) and trusted him. The effects of abuse finally surfaced when he left his wife and children. He could have used a mentor to show him how to develop as a father. He might have found one. But he has done better than many who experienced the same thing. If not for leaving his family, you would call him a hero. In other areas he still a fine role model. He is a bit of a Walter Mitty, but it is a positive Walter Mitty.
