Lagat looked very easy tonight. Farah is world class but Lagat is faster on the last lap so will always win that one.

Any video of that race?

Agreed, but with Rupp looking to go under 13 or better and Lagat wanting to lower his 5000 AR, the probably didn't back off much for this race. Is Lagat in the 5000 next week?

That is a heckuva field. American Record could take a snipping. The americans will have a great train to ride. Perhaps it takes a snipping and Lagat comes back after to regain it.
This could be a sub 13 party for americans and brits.
Mo Farah, Rupp and Chris Thompson could all go under for the first time, Solinsky yet again.
If it goes, the AR will probably last until Brussles.
Lagat's running Berlin, then, I think, Brussels. I think both Lagat and Solinsky are setting up for Brussels to be the main show. Solinsky's just coming down from altitude, so is likely needing Zurich to get sharp.
I wouldn't even think about arguing with Dr. Li about what he's doing. He's better than anyone else at this.

For what it's worth, I believe Renato said the best time to race to maximize performance is within 2 days of coming down from altitude.
My bet is this race will be won well ahead of the AR, so if Solinsky and Rupp want to race they will have a shot.

Because he took a 3:26 guy to 12:54 (finally) for a 5k?
That is not all that impressive to me.

I'm talking about setting up a peak for maximum performance.

Mrr82 wrote:That's probably right, but maybe he'll surprise us.
When he went 12:59 a few years ago closing in 51.9 like it was a jog...that was a pretty damn good sign he could have done 12:40's, he just never got in a race like that.
I'm not so sure about Lagat being 12:40 anything. Only 10 human beings have run sub 12:50 and one who just missed the cut (12:50.25) was the greatest miler ever- ElG.
The guy just ahead of him who did make it was none other than...
Paul Tergat 12:49.87.
Goes to show how important endurance is for the 5.
Also goes to show that very few milers time trial 5ks -- they generally run them to win.
