Some interesting things seem to be going on, not least of which is that many of the records, especially the women's, are here to stay.
It would be interesting, given that it is an off-year, to re-set all the WR's, and arbitrarily set 2010's best performances to world-record status. People seem to agree that there is less doping this year, something with which I tend to agree.
There would still be some pretty good times out there.
In another 100 years, the progression of WR's could be examined and again re-set, or not.
If they didn't really progress, there would be no need for re-setting. If they did progress significantly, they could be re-set to either the new standards of that year, or to encompass all past performances, including pre-2010, if they matched the pre-2010 levels.
I think it's fair--100 years is a LONG time. In the beginning there would be a disjunction, but from 2060-2110 (or maybe even earlier), the pre-2010 WR's would likely seem like ancient history, all but forgotten, from another era.

This seems like a rational place to start. Doubtless some of these performances will be surpassed within 2010.
