He's 3 months younger than me and I'm a junior, not that hard to believe. He's also younger than my father was as a junior.

That is impressive!
3:25.99!
German has the potential to be great, but Chelanga has run 27:08 for 10,000 meters. Chelanga crushed everyone at NC's last year, he will likely do the same this year.
3:55i (solo) Junior World Record
13:25 American Junior Record. Lost contact with leaders and was stuck in no-man's land but crawled back to the leaders for final lap)
7:47i American Junior Record.
8:34 (solo) American High School Record.
3:39 - 1500m national champion (leading from the gun!)
And of course the legendary 4:00-8:34 double in a single evening. Then go work at Applebee's.
It's not just about the record times this young man accomplished, but the manner in which he did it.
He's born in early November so in some school districts that's before the cut-off date. He's amongst the younger kids in his class but he's not a year ahead.
But he needs to rid himself of that ratsnest faux-hauk ASAP.

He's 6 years older than German.
Everytime he gets hurt and is away from the spot light like this I honestly forget how freaking good he is. 355, 747, 1325? As an 18 year old.....christ. If (and this is a BIG if it seems) can stay healthy enough to get in a solid block of training (6+ months) I think he'll put down some crazy times. I know injuries are tough and sometimes people can't get over them, but I really hope he can become to runner we all know he can be.
Just think of the talent sitting around this country, some fulfilled some not so much.
I won't praise German, however he is a great guy who is down to earth. And he has laid down some sick times at such a young age. I am excited to see what he can do. I really wish him the best of luck!
If, If, If... he stays healthy can can pull off a 2nd place finish for them at xc nationals then I bet OK State can repeat. German, Lowe, Prentic, Who are the other 2 that are going to step up tho?

Young age, but not that young. Lukas is younger, as are the rosa's. This can not be disputed.
He is finishing college in record time![/quote]
maybe - unless he redshirted boatloads of classes.

By NCAA rules he has to be on target to graduate in five years, he can take that fifth year to finish up but has to keep a certain % all through college.

On the other hand wrote:I seem to remember about three weeks ago, German posted something on Facebook about having some knee syndrome with a weird name.
It's called Osgood Schlater's syndrome, and it's not a "knee syndrome." It refers to chronic inflammation of the top portion of the tibia where it meets the knee. This condition, while irritating and slightly painful, is perfectly safe to train through, and in no way related to overuse injuries.
I too have Osgood Schlaters and considering his age there should be no pain anymore anyway. Most of the pain is during the first few years of its on set. Which is typically in late grade school/middle school. So, I hope this is never used as an excuse for him.
Anemia very serious, amazing he ran as well as he did. Our #1 guy Andy Ball had it his Junior year and was toast couldn't beat anyone, once diagnosed with it and treated came back to finish 7th at NCAA's. Look out for German if he is fully recovered he should be back in a big way
Why the heck isn't Chelanga pro? Liberty isn't going for the team championship, he's already won national championships, he's old as hell: just go pro already!
I find it interesting that he is able to run 5:10-5:15 for 12 miles comfortably. Unless that was supposed to be 6:10-6:15 per mile
no its completely reasonable. high school kids run 6:10- 6:15 pace comfortably. 5:10- 5:15 is fast (faster than I would have guessed) but not unreasonable at all.

How is he a Junior in college but only 19????
As others have said, he is not "a year ahead in school."
I was in this boat. I was born in November, started school at 4 (turned 5 that year). Graduated when I was 17. I fimished my freshman college XC season before I turned 18. I finished my college senior XC season before I turned 21. Graduated at 21. Most of my friends were a few months older than me at all these stages, so their age number was one digit higher.
i would like to know what high schoolers you are talking about bud.
