and people wonder why the sport isn't popular. when you have one of the major websites dedicated to the sport openly questioning and placing accusation on athletes for every thing they do. sensationalized journalism is all it is, but is doesn't do good for the sport to openly encourage everyone to assume everyone is dirty.
who isn't dirty these days ?
Actually, drug testing is not done at every national championship. For example, it was not done at the 15k championship in Jacksonville this year.

I would have to agree, some of those names have been thought to use drugs in the past. A couple of them are on the downside of their careers so I wouldnt be surprised to find out they were on something illegal
Just who exactly is rumored to be using? I thought things were relatively clean now since the MJ fallout.
Here's the list from the article-I don't think any of these athletes are "suspicious":
Molly Huddle
Magdalena Lewy Boulet
Kate O'Neill
Ilsa Paulson
Alissa McKaig
Erin Richard
Fernando Cabada
There is only one on that list that is suspicious.
aggreed...the drug actuations are getting old...and most are without merit.
for me it is easy...offical positive drug, guilty...other wise it is just hearsay
OF COURSE there is a correlation, and I'm glad letsrun has the guts to reveal it. It happens whenever a major championship venue announces that they will test. Suddenly, the dirty runners begin withdrawing with injuries, illnesses, sick children, sick pets...you name it, they are gone.
perhaps none of those athletes are suspicious but is it suspicious if said athlete withdraws, only to win a smaller race for alittle less money, but no drug testing? just asking.
While I think it is important to point out the number of athletes who withdrew, I think it is irresponsible journalism to name names. There may be innocent athletes on that list that had legitimate injuries or reasons to withdraw that are now implicated as dirty athletes. That is unfair and unjust. We do need to know that situation happened but now I would wager that at least one athlete has now been publicized as a suspected doper. Even more than the prevalent culture that no one is above slight suspicion.
Posting on a message board isn't journalism.
Honestly, I don't think in most cases that this is any more complicated than the fact that several people decided they really didn't want to run in 90 degree heat and high humidity in Iowa. I don't know what the actual temperature was, but that's what they could expect about now.
the person that wrote the article and placed it front page of the message board is indeed a journalist.

huddle and meb both withdrew before said announced drug tests. all the other athlete's are pretty suspicious, and their reasons.
I'm not accusing huddle or meb of anything, but don't you think it's possible that the word got out before it was officially announced?

This is the "I will use any evidence to support my unprovable theory" crap.
Joe Smith has a huge break out so he must have started using drugs.
Joe Smith has been consistent at a high level for years so he must be using drugs.
Joe Smith has never tested positive, but that doesn't mean anything since testing is a joke, a sham, he's tipped off, they switch his sample, it's so easy to evade and the federation is in on it even though some of the biggest names in track and field have tested positive, contrary to the interests of USATF.
Joe Smith pulled out of Bix 7 and Bix 7 is testing so he must have gotten scared (of the testing that supposedly a joke, even though he's run in the USATF and World Championships that test the top finishers and random placers as well, and despite the fact that he's been in the USADA/WADA testing pool for many seasons so testers can find him on any day of the year and test him),
Joe Smith must be using an detectable drug even though WADA and USADA have been storing samples for later retesting since the Beijing Olympics.
No matter the result, the conclusion is always the same. According to the dumbasses on this board, these guys are supposedly scared of testing, the same testing that's supposedly a joke, but also the same testing they are subject to at any given hour between 7am and 11pm, 365 days a year, but that's also supposed to be so easy to evade through chemical or administrative avenues, but that also busted two American Olympic gold medal sprinters in the last four years.
Idiots.
Web guys are not journalists. They're wannabes with real jobs at Oil Changers.
Wait...there is drug testing at the US National Championships? wtf? Alright...well that's bizarre. Better sit this one out then.

They took Urine samples. Did they take Blood Samples to test HGH ? Did they inspect the hotel rooms of the Eugene and Portland based athletes for drug paraphenalia ?
