doubtful--the cold michigan winters aren't as accomodating when it comes to shirtless running.
So we're back to the question of who will replace Gibby? There is now an opening at William and Mary and Wake, correct? Similar academically, Wake probably has better funding athletically but W&M has a much stronger team.
How long before Michigan is beating the Badgers? Here's the history of the Big Ten Championships. I'm not sure Alex Gibby is going to change this much:
Wisconsin-43 titles "11 in a row"
Michigan State-14 titles "last win 1971"
Indiana-13
Michigan-9 "Has won 3 since 1980"
My guess is that they'll sprinkle one in once every 10 years.
It has been the Wisconsin show, with Minnesota and then Ohio State for cross country as well as track the last couple of years. In track, Minnesota has really pulled away with Badgers reloading a bit. Ohio State has established themselves as a top 3 team last 4 or 5 years.
But in cros country, it has been and will continue to be for sure 100% Badger show. OSU was 2nd last year with Minnesota getting 3rd.
W&M has some pretty accomplished alumni any chance any of them would go back to take over for Gibby??
Already mentioned Ed Moran, he's been there as assistant for years. Will he follow Gibby to Michigan? Sean Graham is back in the area now assistant coaching at American University with Centrowitz, not sure if he is still racing. I think Matt Lane may be coaching at a High School back in Maine, maybe a lawyer too? Not a lot of coaching experience from any of them but certainly a lot of years training and racing.
Why not Sean Graham back to William and Mary? He had a great career there and worked under Matt Centrowitz at American this year now that he is basically off the Nike Elite squad. He would be perfect for that position.
You absolutely could do no better then Sean Graham.
Sean Graham would be a fantastic hire for WM. Great guy, fantastic athlete, class act who has learned from the best in Gags.
What about Matt Moran? He's a W&M alum. He coached at Penn State, including James Carney, and he rebuilt Cortland into a DIII power a few years ago after Jack Daniels left.

that is what I was thinking, but I wonder if he wants the job. i would imagine he would be a top candidate for it.

Both men's and women's jobs are open at William & Mary. Newberry must be heading to Michigan as well.
Can anyone confirm that this part is true?
True. WM is now looking for a single coach for a combined men's and women's program so they can get the best out there by being competitive salary-wise.

Great thought - Matt is a really good guy and I would imagine he could be a good recruiter. I don't follow D3 that closely but hasn't he done a great job at Cortland.

They are probably getting divorced anyway (from what I hear). I don't think it's a coincidence that he is leaving to coach halfway across the country.

I understand the concept of combining the 2 in order to pay competitively to get a great hire but I really doubt they will combine them.
Kathy was the women's head coach there. Why would they not be looking to have another female head coach? Hasn't W&M always had a female as the head coach of the women's team?

BS UM is not on the same level as W&M, W&M is just like UVA the ivy league of the south you need the grades, sat scores extra curricular to get into W&M plus its a nice college town. Nobody with the right mind would switch from W&M to UM. granted the summers are hot and humid, but UM has worst weather, in W&M you can train in nice winter weather 9 out of 10 years
this is just categorically wrong on the academic front. michigan is highly selective and is a bigger springboard to future success than william & mary.

Eh W&M is not quite the pressure cooker of UM and UVA but I do agree the school has a sort of niche applicant pool. Williamsburg is not so bad after the summer and even then you should easily be able to acclimate especially if they recruit in-state kids.
Are you kidding me? Why don't you google "William and Mary suicide rate". See what results you get. Your post is ignorant to the point of inciting anger. UVA, a pressure cooker? No. Frat central, yes.
Also, this website is ruthless in its invasion of privacy into the personal life of Gibby, but whatevs.
Having lived in Virginia for 15 years, while gaining acceptance to UVA isn't easy, W&M is the state school known for the academic pressure cooker environment.
