I'm not an expert, but isn't a 100 mile week 2 weeks before a marathon in which you want to PR, going to leave you feeling a wee bit flat?

Not necessarily. It looks like he's doing a two-week taper instead of a 3....very common. Although, my experience with a two week taper is that it needs to be more drastic than what he proposes. In my opinion, the penultimate week should be closer to 60 miles, not 80 and that week of the race should be closer to 30, not 65.
I give the guy props. Sure, his goals seem a little optimistic given his current fitness, but if I had his situation (relaxed work schedule, altitude training, support, etc.) I'd do the same thing, except for the blog thing...not my style. I'm a 2:34 marathoner and I realize that the OT marathon is an extreme longshot. But I'm not training for the trials, I'm training to see how fast I can get...if that ultimately gets me to the trials, great, but I enjoy running, racing, and competeing...not matter how fast or slow I am.
It will be interesting to see how he does in his upcoming half, and in Chicago.

Yes but only if 1. he cuts back on running and starts crossfitting 5 times a week and 2. finds the right fuel and water belt/pack so he doesn't have to stop at the water stations.
LOL
I am watching his results with interest.

In Santa or the Easter Bunny?
The horrible thing is that this guy is setting a precedent for any other potential Olympian with a legitimate chance at getting to the trials. He lacks the mental toughness to ever get near the OT qualifier, a real athlete is focused on his training not how he looks in a photo. His failings will very likely result in an athlete with true talent and potential losing a legitimate chance at getting somewhere when his current employer finally figures out he is getting scammed.
Maybe, MAYBE, if he could get under 31:00 in a 10k he might have a shot at legitimately convincing an employer that he had the right stuff instead of talking out of his ass about every topic under the sun, ala Marshall Burt of the ETG. For his and every other runners sake he should march into his bosses office and go back to a regular schedule. If he can't get close with that then all the time in the world will never get him to his delusions.
A minute per mile is a tall order.
you're argument and definition of potential Olympian lacks any concrete definitions and is entirely subjective.
"Can Jason Rahm knock 27 minutes off his marathon PR to make the trials?"
No.
Listen. What makes this guy unique is he has to be a little nutts to boldy say he is going to qualify for the Olympic Trials considering he is 'currently' a 2:46 marathoner. 2:46 is a time 99.9% of the letsrun posters are unable to run and a time only a select few in the US can obtain. It is not a sub 2:19 time or sub 2:10 but its not a jog. Additionally, people are talking about the guy, whether good or bad. I wish him the best. Look at the founders of this site. You talk about enthusiasm for a dream. Weldon, mediocre 'in his opinion' in college improved to 28:06 for 10K and Weldon ran a very respectable 2:23 marathon from humble beginnings in distance running. It takes that form of enthusiasm to do big things in the sport and more often than not even the very best in the world fail but they keep trying.

You're illiterate, so STFU.
Except that they guy clearly isn't serious. Stop digging this hole.
That is only 1620 snaps. Believe believe believe.
Engrishfunny.com????
bump.
He IS a little "nutts." Don't confuse delusion for dreaming, idiot. He threw down an 18:00 5k this past weekend. I think Brian Sell had a little something to say about 18-minute 5kers.

How the heck is he going to go from 5:50 pace for a 5k to 5:20 pace for a marathon, is he dumb?
