Then that goes for every record ALSAL set.

Bernard Lagat was born in Kenya and competed for Kenya in the Olympics. It's like Lebron James moving to England and having all the British scoring titles and records. Its just not the same.
Yeah it really sucks he had to earn his right to be here while you were just given it...Could you pass the tests to be an American?
its not that he is any bit less of an american than any of us, but the fact that he has kenyan genes and upbringing make it a less impressive feat for the things he does in the minds of many so they dont get as excited with the performances. african born athletes dominate the distance events and lagat is one. the fact that he was born there, makes him no less of an american than me or anyone else, and in any international competition i will cheer him along just as i will the rest of the athletes competing for team usa. but, (and not just because of the performances he has done in the past) i will not be as surprised or impressed with comparable performances between him and other performances by american born athletes, but i will be just as excited.
i may be way off but i feel like that would describe many other people that may come across as bashing lagat, but just dont choose their words appropriately to convey what they think.
but lagat is starting to look like johnny gray droppin those 143's at 38! wonder how long lagat can keep it up...
Have not read the thread, but this record was expected. Solinsky was more of a shock because the prerace hype revolved around Rupp and Solinsky had never done a 10km.

Nope, it because he is black and not naturalized citizen.
This is the truth. White boys want a great white hope. Track fans want results. Thank you Lagat for getting the record.
wasn't there a big deal made over Meb's NYC win that lasted days? it's not a race thing.
I think it has less to do with the fact that Lagat was expected to do it and more to do with the event it self. In all the other cases of a flashing front page ritz, meb, sol it was something that was very unexpected and something Americans had been waiting for for a long time. Kennedy's record had stood for like 13 years, mebs for 9 and it had been decades since an American won NY. In lagats case the record is only a year old and i think most people feel he has the ability to go under 12:50 which is a real barrier that Americans have been wait for some one to go under since Kennedy broke 13. On that day i bet he will get a flashing front page, hopefully it will be soon. Congrats Lagat heck of a race.
maybe you should close your legs?
Bottom line people he is an American, Meb is an Amerrican and Lagat smashed the record. If you're going to glorify records with an intro page the least you could do for an American who runs 12:54 in his thirties is to give him some like treatment. I think this is being downplayed when this is huge. I mean how long has he been trying to run this time? Decades!!!!

Ummm Lagat is an AFRICAN....those guys were American....Yes I am writing like a typical Letsrunner thinks.
Then you forgot to say something about Lagat being on EPO.

The original poster is just a pathetic piece of crap on this planet. He's not even black, he's just trying to be a f'tard and start stuff.
Fact is Lagat went 12:59 years ago with a 51.9 last lap. 12:54 is not really a huge accomplishment for someone like Lagat, it was def expected. The guy in his prime...and maybe even still, can go well into the 12:40's.
Lagat is 35 yrs old and past his prime and he isn't running well into the 12:40's.
The breakeven point for Lagat would be to run sub-12:10 5K at age 50 to equal the accomplishment of a real american who runs sub 13 with the right genes.
(yes that was in jest)
that fuccin n***** doesnt deserve shyt other than a deportation and a skin bleaching
Because Lagat didn't set a Clydesdale record, and the vast majority of LR visitors relate better to a Mac-fed Clyde than to a thoroughbred like Lagat.
The Brojos just know their audience.
Lagat was born and raised at altitude in a country that gives a crap about running. Solinsky was born and raised at practically sea level and ate McDonald's growing up. If anything, Solinsky should get the flashpage for his Oslo effort. Does that answer your question?
The correct answer:

Lagat was predicted to get the record beforehand. Ritz and Solinsky were huge surprises competing in events outside their specialty. If Lagat was to try a half marathon and then shattered the American Record, then an opening flash page would be warranted.
Everybody else posting here is full of bull.
The reason Solinsky/Teg/Rupp/Ritz are getting flash caps and Lagat isn't is that 99% of letsrun readers are skinny white guys, and seeing other skinny white guys running faster than ever before makes us hard
stop making oklahomans look stupid please.
