Yes, but when he recovered he walked in the complete opposite direction before he was forced to turn around (Al had to actually push him), and then Rupp barely got in an anonymous pat on theback before turning and getting as far away as quickly as possible. Class act.
Are you people joking? Rupp just ran his balls off, ran from the front and essentially rabbited Solinksy through the AR. You think he's going to jump in Solinsky's arms and congratulate him for drafting all but two laps and stealing his AR thunder? You're out of your collective minds. Solinsky owes the kid more than going over and shaking his hand- as the OP said, he owes Rupp a nice dinner or something. Solinsky ran a phenomenal race, but Rupp towed him all the way. Even if there is some sort of real animosity here, it's Solinsky who should have sought out the shake, not vice versa. Have any of you knuckleheads ever actually been in that situation before (leading and losing v. drafting and winning), or do you just like to hate on our top young American distance runners?
As for the guy talking about Nike 'win/winning'... uh, do you really not see why Nike should be embarassed here? They turned this thing into reality tv (or as close as we're gonna get): "oh, where is Rupp going to run? Tough conditions either way! It's a Rupp AR effort, forget about the other guys in the race. Etc., etc." The fact that the moment was spoiled by the all-but-forgotten Shumaker camp, another Nike American no less, was classic. Nike was friggen handing out noisemakers with Rupp's picture on it at the meet!
Good for Solinsky- if Nike wants to play it that way, then go out and spank their Golden Boy.
Like I said- hopefully both guys use it to motivate and think even bigger.
