Dude sounds like a jerk, was he drunk during the interview?

He was the ONE GUY in the late 90's who had the balls to take on the Kenyans without fear (once Kennedy started trailing off)
Wasn't very successful.
He's 35 years old, and he's been punishing that body of his from the very beginning. I like comeback stories as much as the next guy, but he's running out of time...2012 is 2 more years away...two more years to get older and slower, and no, he's not Carlos Lopes either.
Talking about getting back at people though and giving them the big middle finger? Man, that's sophomoric at best. Think it in your head...don't say it out loud.
It would be sophomoric for him to actually do it, I agree. But I'm relatively sure he means that figuratively. If he doesn't, then it will definitely be sophomoric...and hilarious.

Now THAT is a good point, and one I hadn't considered. Good show brother.
If giving "haters" the finger is his primary motivation, I'm not sure patching a wounded ego and lack of self-esteem is really going to do it for 26 miles. I'm taking that not making it to London bet.
Comparison with Lagat may be less instructive than his own comparison with Keflezighi or, better, Carlos Lopes -- a track medalist in the 1972 Olympics who fell out of the public eye until becoming a monster marathoner in his late 30s in the 1980s.
And having seen what Adam Goucher did at the USATF XC championships in the mud of Greensboro, NC 10 years ago, I am reluctant to put a limit on what a healthy Goucher is capable of.
You know, it's almost the same thing as he did the year he ran 13:10. Everyone thought he was done, he gutted out a good race at the Trials or USATF or whatever that year, but missed qualifying by a spot or two.
Then he ran his mouth similar to right now about how by the end of the season he'd show all those clowns (who'd just beat him) and have a faster time than all of them. Everyone ridiculed the statement.
He ran a PR 13:10 a month or two later and had the fastest American time of the year by a half second or so.
I'm not betting any money that he's going to run 2:07 or anything, but I wouldn't put much past this guy.
The Gouchers talk too much, just let your running do the talking.
Maybe USATF will put Chaplin in a position to give non-qualifier Goucher a free ride onto the Olympic Team next time instead of just a free ride into the trials race.
It's actually not a bad interview, minus the quote on the frontpage. He's pissed at those who suggested it's over, yet he said this about himself...
More negative than positive toward the end of 2008, when I was like, “You know what? I may be reaching my end. I don’t know if I can keep doing what I’m doing—always fighting through things.”
I wonder if he gave himself the middle finger.
I'm glad to have Adam run his mouth. Too often runners are these meek, skrawny nice guys that give the same ol' crap. "I'm going to put in some good training months and hope everything works out at X race."
I hope he's successful.
Shouldn't he run his first marathon and get his half marathon PR below 1:03 before talking about fighting for a medal in the 2012 Olympics?

He's fought through more bad luck in one decade than most people have in a lifetime and he's still hungry. I truly hope that he can keep his body in one piece and pull it off. If there's one guy who has paid his dues in this game, it's Goucher.
I am interested to know what kind of bad luck has he had?
His wife is hot he gets a 5 minute deduction.
He just needs to reinvent himself as a runner and move on. So he was injured and so he is older. Sounds like he is lighting the "I will show 'em" fires to get himself going again. But show who?
If he needs to slip us the middle finger then he is going down the wrong path. You you don't run fast because of fingers. But at least he can practice that in workouts.
Run intervals or trials and end by flipping the finger to whomever is around. Maybe Nike has a program that trains a runner for that.
I think this comeback attempt is awesome. And I like the quote. Goucher is turning into the badass of american distance running. I would personally rather listen to goucher dropping f bombs and talking about giving people the finger than to hear ryan hall talk about his love for god again. I think its an awesome thing for running to have a personality like this out there to contrast most of the other quiet reserved distance runners.
I hope that old bastard wins the 2012 trials and literally does raise the birds coming down the final straight away... what a glorious sight that would be.
This whole Adam Goucher as James Dean, blue collar badass, proving em wrong again routine, is a broken record, old and stale. Old time runners with head issues and a laundry list of injuries are supposed to be humble and appreciative of the opportunities given to them. Calm down Adam. Run the 2:10 and then we'll listen.

He does have a life...its running. Hes a PROFESSIONAL RUNNER. So is his wife. His life is the Oregon Project. The reason you only run for health and fitness is cos you aren't fast enough to be a professional. Quit sippin' on your haterade brah.
um, no, it's because my career pays way more annually than almost every "professional" runner on earth. and i can do it long past my 30s.
mm mm haterade is GOOD.
