I've recently been looking for runners who have broken 3-hours in the marathon in 5 consecutive decades. So far,
only Larry Olsen appears to have passed the test. A few others will get there this year--Joan Samuelson is in the hunt. I believe Olsen achieved the following:
1967 Boston Marathon: 48th, 2:37:42
1978 Boston Marathon: 29th, 2:19:23
1980: Buffalo Olympic Marathon Trials: 2:25:05
1993 Boston Marathon: 91st, 2:35:08
2000 Boston Marathon: 1064th, 2:58:27
Derek Turnbull also probably hit 5 decades, though one (an easy one) is missing from this record:
1956, 2:43:55
1960s, no records
1977, 2:14:56
1986, 2:38:46
1992, 2:41:57 (London at age 65)
"Old John" Kelley just missed, with a 3:03 in 1970, his 5th decade.
If you know any other sub-3 for 5 decades guys (or women), please post here. Thanks.
