Salazar and Raczko both working with Webb. That's great. They will probably make Armstrong and Contador look like best friends by comparison. Does anyone think Webb has the balls to knock two heads together when necessary?

It's about time. I would have guessed Schumacher would be a better fit for Webb though. But Salazar is a step up at least.
I heard that Schumacher was going to require Webb to wear knee socks and a headband if he ran with their group. That was deal breaker.
As much as I'd love to see Webb become successful in Oregon, I'm skeptical. At this point I don't think that any amount of training will get him above where he was two years ago.

Yeah, but maybe he could start hitting 3:50 at championship races instead of hitting 3:46 at some low key meet.
3:50 doesn't get you out of the heats at major championships. usually you have to run 3:38-3:41 in the heats. 3:35-37 in the semis and then 3:32/33 in the finals to medal.

Hopefully, now he'll get his thyroid condition fixed. Hopefully.
he was talking about mile times not 1500
wow..just wow!! so 3:41-38 and 3:35-37 does get out of the heat but 3:50 mile does not!! Dumbest post of the year nomination goes to.... you're an idiot!1
BEST DAY EVER FOR WEBB FANS!(besides when he is actually good)
I'm confused. Why is he an idiot? Why would Webb want to run a mile when everybody else is running a 1500?
Salazar is going to make Webb get rid of the hair plugs.

Will Webb move up to the 5k or at least run it more than he has in the past? This is certainly a big time move.
I see this move either being the end of his career or a shot in the arm (no pun intended) that will bring him back to 3:30 shape, nothing inbetween. Jerry's group would have been a much better fit in my opinion (what the hell do I know?). Salazar seems soulless to me and his runners are kind of crazy. Maybe that's a winning combination, but Jerry and his runners seem like a much more normal, down to earth, and happy group, plus Jerry seems more compatible with Webb's race distances. Rupp has run very well at the 1500 and mile though for being a 10k runner.
I like Webb. I've always been a fan since I first heard of him. I've never counted him out. If he had peaked a month later in 2007, he'd almost certainly have a medal right now, possibly even a gold one. I'd love to see him get back to 2007 form, and I think he can at least get close. Time will tell. Best of luck, Alan.

Bingo!
It's obvious that Salazar's group is the place to be. He's got the US's top male distance runner in Rupp, and one of the top two female distance runners in Goucher (the other is Flanagan; I'm not counting the middle distance girls here - Barringer, Willard, Rowbury, and Vessey). Now he's getting Ritz.
He has a ton of resources to stay healthy - alter G treadmill, doctors, trainers, massage therapists, even sports psychologists.
He's meticulous. From an article on Adam Goucher - "Salazar has become a running guru who has immersed himself in all aspects of training. It’s not that the running workouts he has Goucher doing are that much different than Wetmore’s, or perhaps those of any other elite coach, for that matter. It’s the "extra things" Salazar has Goucher doing—everything from dynamic flexibility exercises, pool running and core strength training to post-workout nutrition, massage therapy and visiting with a sports psychologist—that have helped spur the gritty runner’s revival."
And finally, the man was world class himself. He's been there. Raczo can't possibly know what it's like to be Webb. Salazar can come close.
Great move.
Caitlin Chock moved over to Al Sal, too.

Why do you feel that way?
At the end of the day, it's all about the results. I can't speak for Salazar's training methods, but his athletes do very well in international competition. Salazar is definitely smart enough to train a middle distance guy. He was able to develop Rupp's kick and speed at 1500m. Why can't he do the same for Webb? Good luck to Alan. I think this is a smart move.
The real question is if Salazar is fit enough to handle the coaching duties and attention to detail required for his expanding training group. I hope so.
