Who would have thought last year that 2 other American's would have broken 4 before Rowbury? After she spanked CWT that last lap at USA's, gotta say her sub-4 is on its way too.
Rowbury threw down the gauntlet last year and the US women have really stepped up their game. As a result, we are seeing some wonderful performances by our 1500 meter team.
But I would be utterly surprised if Rowbury doesn't pop a HUGE race very, very soon. She opened up at Pre with a 4:03, and then won USATF Nationals with a 60 last 400 to close a huge gap that Wurth had created.
The US 1500 meter squad is looking very, very strong this year for world's.
Suzy Hamilton didn't break 4:00 until she was 29/30 years old. CWT's progression isn't actually much different than SFH's http://www.usatf.org/athletes/bios/oldBios/2006/Favor-Hamilton_Suzy.asp

Ok. She was a consistent 4.05-4.10 runner for 5 or 6 years and then she comes out and runs 3.59 aged 29.
Just huge double standards. If she were European, a lot of people would have a lot to say about it.
The only reason I get in so much trouble is I 'make suggestions' about athletes from countries you're not allowed to 'make suggestions' about.
Jamal is fair game. I don't see anyone jumping in to defend and attack her detractors. Any Europeans are also fair game. Americans and Africans are seemingly untouchable.

?>?????? wrote:Did you not see what someone else wrote above there? She ran 4:04 at Pre last year... then 4:02-3 early this year, then 4:01 at Pre this year and then sub 4. Looks like good progression.
That's not normal progression for someone her age.
Just saying.
If she were from anywhere else.
Honestly troll, i think you're starting to take this conversation seriously. Why don't you tell us what "steady progression" should look like for an olympian who was consistently at 4:05, than hit 4:04 than 4:01, 4:02 and now 3:59.
To me that defines steady progression.
Yeah, an Olympian that bombed out in the first round, like someone that consistently runs 4.05-4.10 is likely to do. Just like she did in the Worlds the year before.
All the progression comes in the space of a couple of months. In a long career, that's not normal.
2000 - 4:24.21 - freshman at Arkansas
2001 - 4:24.66 - sophomore - 3rd in SEC 1500 outdoors
2002 - 4:16.80 - junior - All-American XC; SEC 1500 champ
2003 - 4:10.49 - senior - 3rd at NCAA outdoors 1500
2004 - 4:15.99
2005 - 4:08.76 - 1st at Pre Classic, 6th at USATF outdoors
2006 - 4:05.00 - ranked 4th in US by T&FN
2007 - 4:07.86 - 1st Milrose Games 800, 2nd USATF outdoors
2008 - 4:04.88 - US indoor champ, 3rd at Oly Trials
2009 - 3:59.98
She's been good for a long time. Even back in 2005 she won the Pre Classic. But yeah, this year is a huge jump. It took her from 2003 to 2008 to go from 4:10.49 to 4:04.88 (5.61 second improvement), then just one year to go from 4:04.88 to 3:59.98 (4.90 second improvement).
If you guys Mapped out anyones career it would show big jumps at times. Seriously, almost anyones.
And for all different reasons. Especially if they are not racing the Euro circuit on a regular basis.
Trollism, why don't you map out the progression from each of those runners in the field and show us how it looks?
And how about:
Willard
Rowbury
Barringer
They're younger see.
Although Rowbury moved from her college to one very sketchy group and made a huge improvement.
I notice one ex-member of that group is now running a lap slower than she used to.
Willard and Barringer are pretty young, yep?
I guess an 11 second drop in the 1500 from one year to the next is your idea of "normal" progression?http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/letter=0/athcode=196312/index.html

Anyway, my point isn't that she's on drugs, I don't know enough about her other than her progression.
Just that if she wasn't a white american, her progression would be seen as suspicious by your standard letsrun poster, and that would be ok.

Go ahead and map it out for us and then try to make your point still by holding on to the age angle.
But seriously map it out.
Oh dear, somebody back there actually thought that I was implying that Jamal was clean.
I don't need to map out their progress, they made big jumps, I get it.
If they weren't American, they would probably get the treatment too.
A glimpse of Suzy Favor Hamilton:
2000 3:57.40 Oslo 28/07/2000
1998 3:58.38 Monaco 08/08/1998
1997 4:03.50 Sheffield 29/06/1997
1995 4:05.14 Monaco 25/07/1995
1994 4:06.60 Monaco 02/08/1994
1993 4:15.07 San José, CA 29/05/1993
1991 4:15.54 Tokyo 29/08/1991
1987 4:09.10 San José, CRC 27/06/1987
In 1998 she was 30, in 2000 she was 32.
In which year did she meet Jos Hermans?
Rowbury's progression is ridiculous as well. 4:12.31 in 2006, injured in 2007, 4:00.33 in 2008.
Apparently she has worked really hard to loose weight since last year. Her coach felt she was too bulky and for her to make progress weight needed to come off. This could explain her progress. Also - she has been racing ALOT.

I remember reading somewhere that she dropped 5 pounds this winter. That could be a factor.
And Barringer:

2008 4:11.36 Luzern 16/07/2008

Are we getting the point?
