Your right. Their the two best 1500 runners that the US has.
no doubt. dont you wish alan trained more like jabe though. you know thons, half marys and then with the 1500s
and maybe a 8-hondo or two at the end of the season.

You people are ridiculous - where was all this hate when Webb ran 3:46?
The guy went after it a bit harder in 08, got slightly banged up, and things didn't come together in time. It's not a mystery.
it has nothing to do with how hard he went in 08 and everything to do with how he eats macdonalds hamburger meat everyday before practice.
the tragedy of A Webb wrote:
Most top middle distance runners have long, flowing strides. They are relaxed even at high speed or when tired. They have very little upper body muscle-just enough to offset the motion of the legs and control pelvic motion. Any more is not needed, and is just extra body mass to drag around. Alan Webb thinks that it is needed, but it is not. When you are trying to kick off of 60s pace, it could be helpful. But when trying to kick off of 57-58s or run sub 3:30, it is not.
I cringe at the fact that I must remind you all that Peter Snell was 5\'10, 176 lbs at the peak of his career.

And he would not be competitive with the best milers of the past decade. Finishing 80 meters behind the wr mile is not competitive.
Anyone else not buying the "overtrained" excuse that Webb used after what, 5 bad races? If anything, he was probably undertrained.
Alan Webb is not overtrained or undertrained. He is merely incorrectly trained.

no...he has to have similar prs and championship performances to ever be compared with nick...
right now he has vastly superior PRs but nick has the medal...most people will give nick the edge due to his bronze medal (I agree) but even now its not even clear cut...
its not like willis doesnt have down years, webb just gets scrutinized more because hes american
The better PRs just make the comparison more embarrasing for Webb.

Not really...Webb has made 2 world championship finals and finished 7th and 8th (I thnk)...while he is better than that it's not the disaster people are making it out to be (where was willis those years?...not the NLT one with down years/injuries I suppose)
He's had 2 really bad years both due to training mistakes...one due to that 10k but guess what, people will remember him for his impressive range and American debut record at 10k more than the fact that the rest of thatyear was rough, last year being an Olympic year was a huge set back but he's got plenty of time to get a medal...
People love to hate him

Olympics 2004, Webb didn't go past round one, placing 9th in
3:41.25.
Willis advanced past round one with 3rd place, in 3:39.80. And then in round two was 6th in 3:41.46.
Webb may have done better at World's in 2007 (8th instead of 10th in finals?) and 2005 (finals instead of semis?), but Willis got gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2006.

commonwealth games are a joke...brannen got 2nd, dont get me wrong i like the kid but no way in hell is does beating him equate to making a world championship final
and your right, willis did better at both olympics and his bronze makes him the better championship performer and probably gives him a slight edge overall in their careers so far...all im saying is its not over or a blowout by any means as the idiots who take any chance they get to ridicule webb seem to think
gabe is the last hope we have for american distance running
I think one poster has it right. People love to hate Webb. Why, I don't know. Hell, your saviour, Galen Rupp, just stated that Webb and Hall are the reason for the next generation taking up this torch. It has not been passed by Webb in the least. This guy will chill, the spark will be ignited and he will be off. He has at least 3-4 great seasons left in him. Do they all come together, in olympic years, etc, who knows, but he has them left.
Final Pr's
1500 - 3:28.7
Mile - 3:45.8
5000 - 12:54
Medal count - one worlds, two olympics....
