For information:-
KUIJKEN Susan - 2nd in NCAA's - third in 2005 European Cross Country behind Emily Pidgeon who was the UK's 4th scorer on Sunday
Charlotte Purdue - 16th and 15th in last two World XC's, 15:32 road 5k in Ekiden in Japan in November
Emma Pallant - 3rd World 1500, PB's of 4:11 and 9:07 for 1500 and 3000.
Laura Park - 17th World Cross in 2008, 1st in World Mountain Trophy 2008
Stephanie Twell - 3k PB 8:50.89, 1500 4:05.83
Emily Pidgeon - see Kuijken above, 15:41 5k, 9:06 3k
Lauren Howarth - the only newcomer to international racing. 9:16 PB for 3k
That team is immense. They'd crush Washington and they are all under 20.
No argument.
I agree with the above, but poor old Emily Pidgeon is not remotely in 15:40 shape at the moment and has not been for a couple of years. It is good to see her coming back to some fitness, but I don't think she has the bright future of some of the others.
Not all junior successes become senior successes: remember Sian Edwards - also 15:40 5000m a couple of years ago and a very good placing in world junior cross - what is she up to now?
I am very excited by Charlotte Purdue - she is always overlooked by Steph Twell her training partner - but she is a couple of years younger than Steph, races maturely and was not even that far behind her on Sunday. She could be good.
What people in the US wont realise is that Twell is the best female distance runner in Britain right now and would have taken silver in the Senior race at the Euros had she opted to race that. As for Purdue she is an immense talent 2 years younger than Twell and not far behind her in Belgium.
the world junior cross country meet on march 28th 2009, will be interesting to see if the american junior team can beat Britain, twell, pidgeon and pallant will no longer be juniors, but it will be interesting to see how charlotte purdue does against the usa girls probably hasay, bobcock, brasovan.
What was Twell's 3k PR at Hasay's age? Hasay is at 9:12 now and can go faster.

She'd need to:
Twell's mark in 2008 on 14 September at the IAAF World Athletics Final Stuttgart, GER was 8:50.89

go G.B---stephanie twell rocks! and could kick hassay or any oregon girl easily
Before you start trolling, you should check your facts!
Twell finished 11th in 2009 in the U-23 race.
uh..don't get it...
i merely said Twell could kick down Hassay(or other oregon girls)...what does that link u put there have anything to do w/ that.?
u should check hassys PB's vs. Twells b4 u start lecturing
Twell has been competing for a long time and will be burnt out soon... Hasay will be better by 2012 or 2016.
very amusing to see actual trolls leap in to call others "troll" at the drop of a hat---lol. bit of a case of "projection" i'd say..much like people who always throw around the word "racist"--ones accusing others of that are usually racists themselves.
twell and hassay have been competing for equally long.
neither one is "burned out"--burn-out doesn't exist physically
Twell is currently faster than Hassay, and will beat her 4 times out of 5. Sorry duckies. Yeah, we'll see what happens in 2012 or 2014...
Twell has been competing 2 years longer because she is 2 years older.
The British Jr National team w/o a doubt would beat our top girls from FLNC; Twell is a world class athlete and would be top-3 in the NCAA in the 800-5k and probably somewhere is the top-5 in cross as well. The fact is, if the U.S. sent it's best Jrs to world cross, it would be a toss up of who would win between the US and GB.
The difference is this strong group of girls seems almost like a blip, it has basically been the same group of girls for the last 3 years lead by Twell. Whereas, in the U.S., it is almost an endless pipeline of talent; Chelsey Sveinsson, Emily Sisson and Allie Moreland, etc., are are only slightly behind Jordan. In the U.S., there is pretty a new group each year.
Btw, I seriously thought Twell was about 21 years old, it seems like she has been a junior for ever.
