... WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPOKANE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.
STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE... MAINLY DURING THE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT TIME FRAME. THE HIGHEST ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED ON THE PALOUSE. IN ADDITION... GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL DEVELOP FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING CREATING AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW ESPECIALLY ON THE PALOUSE. NORTH WINDS WILL BECOME GUSTY SUNDAY AND PRODUCE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW. PRECIPITATION WILL START OFF AS RAIN OR SNOW FRIDAY AFTERNOON... AND WITH SURFACE TEMPERATURES NEAR OR ABOVE FREEZING THIS WILL RESULT IN A CHANCE OF MAINLY LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS TO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN THE SPOKANE AND COEUR D'ALENE AREA AS WELL AS THE PALOUSE THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY EVENING.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
The winter storm is going to play right into Team Nebraska's feet. I'm moving them up to a top 2 finish.
2007 2nd place finishers Team Indiana Elite NOT running! This is huge news! What kind of BS is that! I am so pissed I can hardly contain my anger!
The Bruiser

SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM EXPECTED FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...
.A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL SPREAD SNOW OVER THE REGION ON FRIDAY... FOLLOWED BY AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT MOVING THROUGH THE AREA ON SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. MOUNTAIN LOCATIONS WILL PICK UP OVER A FOOT OF SNOW WITH LOCAL AMOUNTS OF A FOOT POSSIBLE IN THE VALLEYS. WITH THE INITIAL STORM THE BEST ACCUMULATING SNOW POTENTIAL WILL BE OVER THE MOUNTAINS AND NORTHERN WASHINGTON AND IDAHO VALLEYS. THEN FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY THE ARCTIC FRONT PASSAGE WILL PROMOTE LOCAL BANDS OF HEAVIER AND DRIER SNOWFALL RESULTING IN A LARGE RANGE OF SNOW ACCUMULATIONS. GUSTY WINDS WITH THE ARCTIC FRONTAL PASSAGE WILL ALSO CREATE WIDESPREAD BLOWING SNOW SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY WITH NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS POSSIBLE FOR SOME AREAS EXPOSED TO A NORTHEAST WIND.
This is some serious shiite. Snow is one thing. Lots and lots of snow and blowing snow in a site surrounded by mountains with hundreds of people unfamiliar with the area trying to drive around and get flights in and out is another. Everyone involved will be at risk. Spokane for the second weekend in December was a stupid choice with a predictably bad result.

Yes, in the true spirit of cross country we should have cross country at times and in places in which inclement weather will never happen.
What about Ohio last year, bad choice? or NY three years ago, again bad?
You take your chances, Spokane is not much different than those places (in fact better than Rochester). Everyone will come back safe and sound having had the opportunity to run in real tough XC conditions, with the worst thing happening being some flight delays.
taser boy wasn't in the bathroom, and he wasn't found guilty, so shut it.
"(in fact better than Rochester)"
What do you mean by that? It was 40 degrees and sunny and thanks to Rochester, the USATF Club Championships really took off.
I say we go back there in 3 or 4 years.

Not to mention Matt Tegenkamp won the men's 10k. Don't see that very often.

I mean that on average you are taking more of weather risk by having it in Rochester than in Spokane. Considering that, and the success of the meet, Spokane is as fine as place to hold the meet and I think that weather should not be an overriding factor.
I do really enjoy having the meet in a different location each year though.
I thought I would not be able to make it but I am going and found a last-minute flight "deal." How does one register for the champs since on-line registration is closed and I might get into Spokane late due to weather (5 p.m. on site registration cut-off time on Friday). If there is a bad delay that is going to be a problem. Is there a contact phone# for me to call in a credit card and get this squared away?
Ah hello, Rochester is a bad comparison. And not because I lived there for 16 yrs and ran the club race too.
That race was held over Thanksgiving weekend or the week before. Not the middle of Dec. You might get some snow on T-day there but not this...
This is just crazy....but we are gonna have fun!
