when I go above 95 my chafing makes my balls fall off
when I go above 95 my chafing makes my balls fall off
Because it would cut into my bike training... and I enjoy a 50 mile ride more than a 15 mile run any day.
knock it off....as a 100 mpw college guy, I don't want anyone else working as hard as me. Don't give these slackers any ideas. I like seeing them finishing 45 seconds behind me in X-C meets.
I do it. Just finished 100 miles for the week.
100 more coming up.
I do it to beat people like you, and I do.
Because I run the 400 and it probably would make me slower.
Because running 60mpw at nothing slower than 5:30 pace is better than jogging around for 100 miles at 8:00 pace.
I wish I had time for 40 mpw right now.
Life. She gets in the way.
There is nothing magical about "100" miles per week. Sooner or later, you will get injured if you feel you must always hit that "100" number.
Because the rest of the world talks in km/week.
I used to occasionally do that much, but now as I've aged, I've gotten so slow that it takes too damn long.
There is nothing magical about 100 mpw.
Do you think people in Europe say "I aim for 166.67 km per week"
I'd blow away in the prairie wind if I ran 100 mpw right now. Even with 40-50 mpw, I only get to sleep about 5-6 hours per night because of my job, family activities, and running.
I'm also 43 years old with one in college and one about to start. Does it really matter if I run 100 mpw and spend $20 just to run a 15:xx 5K in some local charity run? I'm better off with 40-50 mpw with some quality, throw in some lifting, and generally take care of myself so that I can get around and enjoy life for the next 40-50 years.
In the past I've gotten my best results with 80-90. I've seen literally dozens of runners spend one month, one summer, or even a year or two running high mileage and end up quitting when they don't run as fast as they'd like to.
100mpw is not magic, it will not make you into a 14:00 5k runner overnight. You might not break 15:00, and I know several 100mpw+ runners who haven't broken 16:00.
Once A Runner aside, it's unlikely you can pour on 100mpw for a summer and come back an entirely different athlete (unless you are very young). Improvement tends to come from years of focused and consistent application of intelligent work. You will not start shredding up your PRs 3months after your struggle through your first 100mpw week. You will have, rather, become a different athlete when you are feeling relaxed and easy, full of energy and well rested, as you log yet another easy 100 mile week.
Consistency is the key.
Because I am writing in LetsRun...
because I'm injured on 20 miles/week.

then how do you explain my improvement from a 419 mile my freshman year in college (as a walkon-enrolled 2nd semester) to 408 the next year, when the only difference was the 90-110 mpw I did from late August to December during X-C? You CAN get 'quick results', but by quick I mean at least a couple of months of doing it.
Because my goals are to set world records not to brag about how many miles I run.
Because returning to running has been an incredible struggle over the past couple years. I didn't run for 2 years, but stayed fit. The return has been nothing but ups and downs and inconsistency. At 30 I'm not young or old. If I can get into a rhythm and stay healthy, who knows what I'll get up to. The goal is as many miles as possible while staying healthy. If that gets me to 100, great. 65 is about where I've maxed out before running into setbacks.
because 25-30 mile weeks are way more fun
You really aren't the demographic that he was talking to I bet.
