What were his words exactly?
What were his words exactly?
He's calmed down.
He's an idiot.
Your being to nice.I would chose some stonger words.
""It's the same old, same old. You're losing takeoff at the big heights. What are you gonna do? You gotta learn to keep takeoff. You got...you got caught at that meat grinder. I did not and I told ten people I didn't want to get caught in the meat grinder between 65 and 80. You had to, though. You weren't on, you know. Your warm-ups didn't go well. You were on 55. You got caught up in that meat grinder. What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? You didn't have the legs. Her legs are fresh. Eh, it's a silver medal. Not bad for someone who's been pole vaulting for four years."
Way to ruin her medal, A$$HOLE!!!!!!!
Now we're talking. :-)
There are many different roads to the top. Without him maybe she's watching the pole vault from her living room. Don't scrutinize the situation without knowing all the details.
I'm guessing Jenn would have liked the gold herself.
Never become complacent. First rule of being a championship athlete.
If she knew she could have won gold and due to a)inexperience and/or b)dead legs she did not then my guess is that was the correct response from her coach.
What's up with all this touchy feely everyone gets a damn ribbon attitude? On a similar note I was waiting for Nastia Liukin to "smack a hoe" last night. Cheating ass asian. Oh but she got the silver so she should be happy too?
If you are happy, and if your coach is happy, with anything other than first then you have no business in the Olympics....or really any sport for that matter. Strive for the prize. No matter how far you are away you at least need to make the effort and do everything in your ability to reach first. The Russian chick set a WR so it's likely Jenn's best was second...but she doesn't have to be happy about it.
Alan
yeah like she was gonna beat isinbayeva
get real
wow so Slowy McSlowslow in the 10k should be furious that he didn't beat Bekele? really now..
..looking back no way that post was serious. ****.
Stranger things have happened.
She came within one miss of her in March.
Did any of you people actually listen to the WORDS he said?
Apparently not. He told her, look, 4 years ago you were not vaulting and now you have the silver medal, losing to the best vaulter in the world. He was telling her something POSITIVE, to cheer her up. What, because he doesn't hug her he's negative?
When you see her clear huge heights day in and day out at practice then you don't do what you can do easily when it counts is failure. Yes, she got the silver but had it in her to be much more of a gold medal threat. Coach said what he had to say.
Lets put this in perspective: Jenn was in hunt for the gold. She just misses it. NBC decides that they're going to listen in on their coach, and we have no idea if this consveration was a split second after she missed it or 20 mins after. We have no idea what was going on, but NBC decides that this is what they're going to selectively air, and this is how were suppose to percieve what happened.
Pardon for the football analogy, but I am suprised that the FOX didn't air Belichick when he told the Patriots "...at least you guys made a good effort. We did at least win the American League..."
Absolutely! This is one of the reasons I see this generation sucking. Everyone wants to be told how great they are, what a good job they did, but never a negative. This coach has taken an athlete who 4 years ago wasnt even vaulting and she got the silver. Even though he didnt sprinkle rose petals on her what he said wasnt that negative. Everyone wants to search for the negative, thats why coaches these days cant say anything to a kid except how great they are doing without them crying and then telling mommy how mean thier coach is. He saw a moment he could tell her what she was doing wrong or why the outcome wasnt what they hoped for and teach her something. Hopefully she is a much better mental athlete than everyone sitting around on these boards and will process the information, not take it personally, and comeback and set some world records and win some gold. Meanwhile everyone with their nice sweet coaches will continue to not make finals and we can all feel good knowing at least thier feelings werent hurt. Congrats to Jenn and Rick!
As soon as I saw the footage I knew there would be a huge thread about it on letsrun. The guy was a complete D bag talking down to her after she had just won the silver and beat everyone except the WR holder.
I heard she just got a nice endorsement contract from Black and Decker. They like because her coach is such a
TOOL.
Word back home is that they are actually involved romantically ... I'm thinking he should get shut-off for a while. Cause hey, she is only a silver medalist.
the bottom line is. She could not do what she said kick russian butt!!!!!!!!!!! The lovely russian grained her!!!!!
