I hate to break it to everyone but Wheating is simply no Alan Webb. He could be the next Jason Lunn or Micheal Stember.

You must be joking.
A 55 last lap 3:40 is nothing more than it was.

c'mon foolio. It's pretty clear that the sophomore is already as good as their best. He has already proven to be much, much more clutch then webb and his talent and upside may be more.

Is that true? Wheating hit a 54 point last lap when he hit 3:38.

JR, on a semi related point- do you have a comment about KD? Based on his training I would've thought he was well under 1:45 shape.
I was shocked when I saw the results and that KD missed the team. He is in great shape (pr shape) and should really have been able to handle both Smith and Wheating (who both ran great races, so please don't think I'm trying to take anything away from them).
As you probaly know, I had been training with KD every day for 5 weeks during May/June and we worked a lot on running even paced for every rep. An example was when he ran 6 400's with a short rest all in 50/51 and we (I say we, but I was only running the first 300) hit the first 200 in no quicker than 24.9 for every rep. When I saw the splits and saw he hit 23.8 (hand time) for the first 200, I know that's were the error was made. I'm sure is he'd gone 24.5/50.5, he would have run sub 1:45 and that would have been what was needed to make the team. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I hope he can pick things up and take advantage of the shape he is in. He has been a great champion over the last 10 years and the sport is better for having champions like him in it.
