I think Bucknam will fit in just fine in the state of Arkansas.

you mean he'll fit in just fine at Arkansas state right?!
haven't heard anything about anyone following him yet although its still early, i'm sure he'll get a couple guys to go with him. perfect chance for UNI to get their distance program back together though. they have been horrible the last few years.
I have spoken to the boys and apparently Dorian will transfer but Mulder will stay put. All the best to Dorian, Arkansas will be a perfect fit.
#1 1500 runner in the NCAA next year.
The SEC doesn't take one year transfers so Mulder couldn't go. I've heard thatb Buckman will coach the sprinters and Greene or Tribble will be the distance coach. Should be announced soon.
From what I know of the UNI program Bucknam was in charge of the distance team (particularly Dorian) while Coach Case wrote and oversaw the workouts of the sprinters and middle distance group. If Coach Case goes with Bucknam, which I've heard, then I predict a collapse of the UNI team as athletes will either try and follow them to Arkansas or disperse to other schools. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Pathetic. I am on the phone with a former Hog now, and this is piss poor. Shows they don't care about the program.

Buckman can win at Arkansas but not if the old regime sabatages him before he gets started. If you guys give him a chance and help keep the team together the Hogs will national titles again.
Bucknam is a helluva coach. Quit yer whinin'.
Schiefer:
What did McDonnell's resume look like when he took over the Arkansas program? This guy will do the job. He will be hungry and work his butt off and get it back to where it was a few years ago.

I know Bucky personally, so I might be a bit biased (favorably) toward him. But can you explain how this is pathetic? Because you haven't heard of him? I mean, just look at what he has done with the UNI track program. They've become one of the best track teams in the counrty. In fact, didn't they just tie Arkansas at the NCAA's? - Northern freaking Iowa from the MVC, for crying out loud! Those numbers don't lie. He's a good coach, and a great recruiter. I think he's going to have some great success at Arkansas as well.
Let's all be honest, the Arkansas AD only cares about revenue sports. He's going to do everything he can to make the school competitive in football and basketball. If they have a good track and cross country program that's a bonus, but those programs don't carry the freight with the alums who have big money to contribute. Arkansas was lucky to have the run they had with Coach Mac... the program was crap before he arrived.
This is the kind of hire a certain university in Tallahassee made several years ago. Coach from a mid-major who has done well with little. Anyone know how that turned out?
Schiefer,
You're a fat gasbag. Who would you have hired?
This is a great hire. The man is nails and you Hog alums need to be supportive or at the very least get out of his way.
Shiefer, I got nothing but love for you man, but you are dead wrong on this one
Wasnt Schiefer a middle distance runner at Arkansas?
Norther Iowa(coached by Bucknam)runners placed better than any Arkansas runner at NCAA's this year in the 800 and 1500. I dont even think Arkansas had any runners in the 400, yet Norther Iowa had a runner finish 8th. Did Arkansas even qualify in the 4x400- an event Northern Iowa finished 4th in?
Schiefer- Northern Iowa , yes Norther Iowa was just as impressive at NCAA's as Arkansas, perhaps more so. All with Iowa runners save 2 kids from just across the Mississippi River. Now imagine that crew- fully funded with just a couple of international runners in the steeple and 10000 like Arkansas had, and you have a top 3 team this year.
Bucky will get the job done. He will probably bring in a big name distance coach, bring Case down with him and hire an Arkansas alum or 2 to fill out the coaching staff.
Schiefer is wrong.
"Can of corn" and "Seminole" are dead on.
People who are knowledgable and independent thinkers will recognize that this is a great choice. Narrow minded morons will disagree with it.
Good luck, Coach Bucknam.
When I first heard of the possibility I thought about it for a while and came the conclusion Bucky would be a good hire. Why? Because he is filled with his own importance (in a good way), and has a swagger that won't cause him to be afraid of the job. Honestly, most mid-major coaches would have been overwhelmed with the job, but Bucky will not be. If he gets a good distance coach, then I think he will improve Arkansas's program. He is going to have a great administrative team around him, something he did not have at UNI.

Case is the next Head Coach at UNI. He is not going to Fayetteville unless they do not give him the job.
This is not a combined program. They have Bucknam, Booth, and one more coach (at least at the salaried - official level that is all they have - 3 coaches).
If it is a sprint coach I am starting with Joey Woody, who ran for Bucknam at UNI. He is now at Iowa. There are also a number of current Head Coaches in the midwest who could come down as the sprint coach, as well - Ron Boyce, is one.
Travis is still at UNI and would be the replacement for Booth, but not right now (but for how long - ?)
This is going to work. The only questions are how much longer are they on scholarship reduction from the Tyson Gay thing and will Bucknam pursue the high risk recruits (academically or personally) that it seems to take to be successful on the SEC / NCAA Championship level.
What a great day for Joe Walker. The 2008 SEC XC trophy should be mailed to Tuscaloosa.
